Review: Theory of Love

Welcome to another review…after I haven’t been publishing anything for some time. Why? Because I was too busy with life and too lazy to write to be honest. But since I am currently sick in bed and cannot do much I just decided to finally get on with this and present some new content, especially since I promised it such a long time ago.

So here it is, my review for Theory of Love.

d4zddf

GENERAL

Theory of Love is a 12 episode BL series from GMM 25 and airing from June until August 2019. It stars our favourite BL couple OffGun in the main roles, as Khai and Third respectively. The show is about Third, studying in his film major and part of a group of close friends, Khai, Bone and Two. Ever since he met Khai though, he is in love with him but isn’t brave enough to confess, afraid their friendship would be over afterwards. Khai on the other hand is a full on playboy and has no idea about his friend’s feelings. Of course, the drama starts when both start seeing each other’s and their own feelings.

THE STORY & CHARACTERS

If you have watched the show you should know that the story got a lot of back lash. Okay, maybe less the story and more the characters. At first you see Khai being an ass to Third and acting like a huge jerk. It goes as far as people asking Third to fall in love with someone else because the playboy is just so…hopeless? At least that’s what it seems like. And later on Third is not behaving any better and is pretty much doing the same to Khai and people hated on him then. So yeah, it was a total reversal but we all have to admit…they kind of fit together in their own way.

Before I go any deeper into the story and so on…I have to say…I didn’t actually like Theory of Love. Don’t critise me just yet though! I didn’t like the fact how both sides had the worst timing in liking each other and the story really makes you ask what they see in each other. If someone treated me how they treated each other sometimes…I would soooo not be interested anymore. But maybe that’s just me. So yes, I didn’t like the Khai x Third story at all.

But those two are not the only love line we get. Theory of Love also offers others romantic couples…or something similar. We have Bone falling in love with one of the instructors…oh what surprise…well, they did portray it kinda nicely, even if, SPOILER! it did not end the way you might think. Also Theory of Love offered a couple we did not even know we wanted until we actually got it! Two and Un, or the actors White (Love Sick) and Earth (Water Boyy The Series) respectively, start off disliking each other, at least that is what you are meant to think and they kind of grow on the audience as well as each other.

Seriously I have never cheered so much for an unexpected couple. You don’t see it coming until suddenly it’s there and I really liked them together. There story was endearing and lovely. Such a difference to our main couple…

THE CAST

So before you get annoyed with me, let me redeem myself: While I did not enjoy the Khai x Third story AT ALL, I watched it because I love OffGun and they did an amazing job! Seriously, if you get annoyed by awkward acting in some of the BL shows or other series in general, watch Theory of Love. The actors really did their best and it shows. Off definitely proved he is a great actor and can do different multi-layered characters too. Admit it, we all kind of thought he would act as Pick-characters (see Puppy Honey) forever. But well, he definitely proved himself in the series and showed some amazing acting. Gun himself…what should I say, we all knew he was good before because he acted in some strange as well as heavy stuff before and he already showed it back then but definitely showed it again in Theory of Love.

1qo65m

As for the other cast, they did a good job too. Compliments go to White and Earth. Maybe it is because they both played as the more active part in their previous BL roles before and maybe they seem more lovely because the KhaiThird love line was so dramatic but White and Earth had a strange and thrilling feeling about them. For the longest time people only whispered about the characters getting together but when we finally got some steps forward, everyone was still taken aback, whilst at the same time delighted of course. But while everyone wanted it, no one actually thought we would get it. At least I didn’t.

Well, do not worry. The acting is amazing and the loveliness of the side couples definitely makes up for all the drama coming from our mains.

THE QUALITY

Before I give you the overall paragraph I just want to add: the quality of the series is really good despite its kind of messed up story line/characters. The pictures and images are nice and the details are good too. Also, there are some funny scenes in the series. Also how OffGun covered movie posters is so cute πŸ™‚

OVERALL

Overall, Theory of Love is a strange mix of differences and contradictions. While some character has the best time of their life, someone else feels like his life is crumbling. Let me say it honestly, the acting is really good, like really really good and there are some parts of the story of Khai and Third that are interesting but in general our main characters and their love lives are a mess and total drama. Would I still recommend Theory of Love? Yes. Definitely yes. Why you ask? Well, first off, to show you the improvements in acting of all the cast and then to make you another fan of our Un/Two couple. Seriously, I love them so much!

I recommend Theory of Love, if at least two of the following applies to you:

  • you like soap operas or dramatic melodramas
  • you are a fan of Off or Gun or both
  • you like side couples
  • you like shows that are not just “lovey-dovey under the apple tree” but actually show some bad decisions and stupid mistakes by the leads too
  • you have no other BL series to watch
  • you want to support GMM so we can get more BL shows in the future!

If two of them apply, have fun watching and tell me in the comments down below what you thought.

tumblr_pwpkmwuhbk1xk47oho1_540

I know this is an amazingly short review but tbh I really only enjoyed the acting of the whole cast and the loveliness of the side couple and could have done without anything else, so I did not want to write more otherwise, believe me, you wouldn’t want to watch it. I think that would be sad though since some people did like the series, so maybe you would like it.

Because updates are exhausting #randomremarks

Welcome to another installment of random remarks and me lamenting about some ongoing things…or if I’m late, the recently past things πŸ™‚

What to do with Monday and Tuesday?

So recently I started to write down all the shows I’m watching and on what weekdays I can expect some new episodes. I really need it because I watch to much and already lost total control of my calendar I guess. Well, so I started this calendar and soon realized…why do I have almost nothing to watch on Monday and Tuesday? For some time I had one (!) show to watch but since that ended I’m pretty much screwed at the beginning of the week. For now I have spend my time re-watching already released stuff or to finally finish a few shows I had stopped watching for some time.

steve-carell-clap-wow

So if you know any good shows airing on Mon/Tue, feel free to write it down in the comments.

It’s gonna be an interesting Phase Four…

Whether you are a Marvel fan or not, if you like superhero movies at all, you probably have heard of the dispute between Marvel and Sony.
For those who do not know, Marvel (which belongs to Disney) and Sony have made a pretty amazing deal in the last few years, something not seen before. Sony owns the rights to Spiderman while Marvel wanted to add the friendly neighborhood hero to their highly popular MCU (Marvel Cinematic Universe) and integrate him into the world of their other superheroes. If you have ever entered the world of licensing, owner rights and so on, you’ll know it’s messy and pretty much a world of “i have something you don’t have, hehe”. So, this deal… Marvel and Sony decided to cut a deal, where Sony would pay and produce the movies but Marvel would take the lead on the creative side. Of course, the income would go to Sony too. I mean, let’s be honest here: if you are not an avid comic fan and totally for “the original comic creators should be able to do what they want with their hero”, then this does sound pretty reasonable considering Marvel/Disney were the ones who wanted to include Spiderman into their universe. I mean, yes, Sony got the lucky end with the movies considering only (I think) 5% of the movie profit went to Marvel but…everyone…you DO KNOW HOW MUCH money Spiderman made, right? The first one got pretty much 7-8 times its original budget and the second made around 9-10 times its original budget.

tenor

A little bit of math: if I can believe wikipedia, Spider-Man: Far From Home made around 1.111 billion US Dollars. Even if we minus the 160 million for its budget, 5% are still around 47 million dollars. Ever heard of the phrase: “if you don’t respect the little money, then you don’t deserve the big one”? and Marvel finally got a deal that allowed for them to get to use Spiderman in their MCU.

In general, I understand why Marvel asked for more money, I do. I do not understand why they asked for 50% though. Let me be honest, if I was in Sony’s position I would’ve trashed the deal too. I mean, Sony DID buy the Spiderman rights and now they are being slandered for actually doing what they want with it…that’s as if I bought a house, painted it pink and now everyone is complaining that I should give back the house, JUST because I colored it pink. I mean Sony already saw that it was smarter to let Marvel take the creative lead because they are far better at that than Sony, but asking for half of the money, it’s pretty much Marvel asking whether they can have their hero back. I’m totally for Marvel getting their hero back…but maybe don’t ruin your own story on the way. So many people already doubted the MCU could survive without Iron Man and this definitely does not bode well for the MCU’s future.

So yes, I’m actually on Sony’s side here…I do hope they reach a new deal with Disney and Marvel though, because Tom Holland as Spiderman is just amazing ^.^

And fall brings us back to the wonderful world of BL…

For BL there are these phases I think. During the year there are like 3 or 4 phases where there are 2-3 BL shows airing at the same time. Then suddenly it stops and we are left with nothing. Before 2Moons2 we had such a sad phase. Well, another one is coming soon. September brings another dry phase considering 2Moons2 ends in September and Dark Blue Kiss doesn’t start until October. The same with the highly anticipated (at least by me) series Until We Meet Again, that one is supposed to start in November. History3 Make Our Days Count (the second story of the HiStory3 series) is also set to air from October 1st. So prepare for some sad weeks of not being able to watch anything. Do not be too sad though, since we are getting Dark Blue Kiss, Until We Meet Again, HiStory3 Make Our Days Count and maybe finally the also long awaited series The Effect (although we may not know whether that show goes the dark or happy road)

95692a24d09d02a8ad3b7fd4813804efbcd56202_hq

Since I already mentioned it, I cannot wait for Until We Meet Again. I’m currently reading the novel and it is absolutely awesome. I mean seriously, it’s tragic and sad, but at the same time so lovely! And considering the trailers/teasers and the pictures I have seen I think they did a good job with the cast ^.^ so excited for it. For those who do not know: UWMA is about Korn and Intouch, who fall in love and promise each other to always be together and find each other. But their love is not supposed to last and ends tragically. 30 years later, Parm starts his university life and meets the swimming team captain Dean. And strangely, both of them have the feeling of having met each other before…as if they remembered each other from a previous life.
I am seriously so excited for this series!

pvoznf

As for 2Moons2, let me be honest, if the ending is as good as the show is right now, they totally top the previous season. The show has the chemistry, the cast, the stories, the design and camera work and gets better each episode. I’m definitely gonna post a review after it ended, so yes, you’re gonna hear my full review then.

So, is there anything else? Not really I guess…I am planning to release a review on Theory of Love soon πŸ˜€

Top 10 K-Pop Centers (Member)

Before I start, I’m not talking about something like a K-Pop institute or so but like it says in the title, I’m talking about the members (position). For everyone who does not know: K-Pop groups normally have positions and roles for each member. The standard is: the leader, the main dancer, the main vocal, the visual, the maknae (youngest) and the main rapper. Normally the best dancer or the visual gets the center position most often. Of course, there are exceptions and of course, the center can not always have the center position because the others have lines too. But during the chorus we mostly see the center position. This was highlighted a lot in the idol survival show series Produce 101 where the trainees had to assign positions in their groups. It’s funny how it got more attention there, while in the groups themselves it is mentioned less and less.

Well, in this post I’m am gonna share my own opinion about the top 10 members in groups who have center positions (or who are in the center a lot and suit the role well) and who are doing a great job. My judging criteria are:

  • they do a good job at dancing, singing, etc. and do not mess up in the front (at least not regularly)
  • they pull your gaze to them and make you focus on them
  • they have good facial reactions to the song and whatever is going on
  • they are put in the center a lot

Note that this is my opinion, so if you want to add someone, just tell me in the comments below, I love exchanging opinions πŸ™‚

Note: some members/groups may not be mentioned because their center changes quite often depending on the song or sometimes just because there are a lot of members.

10 – Jungkook (BTS)

BTS is known for giving great performances and having a great stage presence. So, of course, the center has to do an amazing job. Jungkook does just that. He is good at singing, dancing and giving good reactions. There’s a reason why people say he is pretty much perfect. The reason why he’s at number 10? Because he does not stand out as much. Meaning: BTS as a whole is a presence you won’t see regularly and all of them have a great aura but regarding stage presence, Jungkook is not the top contender in his group. Still, he has the official center position for a reason and is one of the top talented idols out there.

74145a12946e3cd8243546e29e586514

9 – Soyeon ((G)-Idle)

(G)-Idle is a newer group and not as known as some others on this list, but still Soyeon deserves to be here. While I did not really watch her pre-debut, she manages to catch your eye and delivers some of the best gazes and stage energy ever. She catches your interest for the future. Let’s see where it goes…

large

8 – SinB (G-Friend)

SinB is another member on this list who does actually have the official center position in her group. And she has it for a reason. She delivers performances with such a confidence and energy, you get the feeling she knows exactly what she is doing and she is doing it perfectly. She matches every song and feeling and while she is more on the back bench in the music videos, she stands out even more in the live performances, making her an unbelievably good center.

sin-b-gfriend2-1024x683

7 – Yoona (Girls’ Generation)

Girls’ Generation is one of the few groups where the center position changes over the years depending on the song. Whatever song it was, though, if you put Yoona as a center, she proved she could do an amazing job. She pulled your gaze to her and engaged you into the song. While she may not be the best dancer or best singer in her group you could just see her take you on a ride with the song and make you listen even more closely, whatever genre the song may be.

af84c50f28fee3ca89fa9463389b580d

6 – Hani (EXID)

This choice is pretty clear, I think. I mean the fancam of Hani made the group more known and gave them some recognition and they actually managed to keep the fame which is not always the case. Hani, though, while she does not really stand out in her group since EXID in total and the other members have a big stage presence too, she does deliver all the right feelings and faces for the songs. She looks sexy when it needs the sexy concept, she looks lovely, when she should look lovely and she looks fierce, when it’s a strong and cool song. She matches the songs and stages and gets you even more engaged into the song.

exid-hani

5 – Ayno (VAV)

This name may come as a surprise but it is a deserved spot in the list. I was surprised myself. Ayno is mostly in the center for his group and there is a reason for it. He knows how to pull you in. He makes the chorus even more catchy and he has the gaze and the dancing and knows how to use it all to be a great center. I admit even if someone else is singing the chorus, your eyes are gonna be on him. I don’t know if he has the official center position but I do think so. He definitely deserves it :)(VIDEO)

d9znq9c

4 – JooE (Momoland)

The next four spots are taken by idols who know how to make themselves known and who know how to deliver a performance. For JooE it is less her adapting to a song but more her stage energy, though. She does every single song with an energy that makes you notice her and watch her. Her energy makes you enjoy the song more and have more fun with the upbeat Momoland songs. It doesn’t even matter if she is in the center or not, she shows an energy you don’t see every day.(VIDEO)

cms_7894_

3 – Kai (EXO)

I have to admit, I’m not a Kai fan. I don’t know why, don’t ask me. At the same time, I do have to admit that he is great as EXO’s center. He is a great dancer and good singer and shows everything he’s got as the center. I still remember he already stood out in their debut song Mama and it only got better and more amazing over time. He definitely deserves to be called on of the best K-Pop centers out there.(VIDEO)

kai

2 – Taeyong (NCT)

I was no NCT fan when they debuted. Their music isn’t my style (whatever sub-unit it may be) and I wasn’t into their concepts either. Well, I’m still not their biggest fan but even I see that Taeyong is…well, different than most idols. He has a stage presence that you can rarely see anywhere. He delivers the right gaze and the perfect energy in every video and every live performance. It was seriously surprising how calm he seems in real life (or real life as portrayed in reality shows and so on). He seems rather shy there while on stage he seems more like a force to be reckoned with. An idol like Taeyong definitely shows what a performance has to look like.(VIDEO)

taeyong-nct-baby-dont-stop

1 – N (VIXX)

Talking about stage presence and performance, let’s take it to the kings of concepts, VIXX, and their leader, N. While he may get some of his talent from studying dance and whatever not, there is just no real explanation for his over-the-top stage presence. The group in general lives off of pulling you into their songs and concepts but N has the talent to just take you in even more and focus on him like no one else out there. Whether it is a video, a performance on TV or a live performance in front of you, he takes it all. I still remember showing a VIXX music video to friends and one of them just went like “Who. Is. That?” when seeing N. His little smirks, winks, smiles, waves and all the other little moves support his and VIXX’ stages and make you enthralled in their music. I’ve never seen anyone who could pull you in as much as him whether it is in Korea or anywhere else. He is someone who keeps your eyes on him whether he’s your bias or not. And while he manages to get your attention all the time, he knows how to make the other members shine too and supports them. I guess, that’s what a performer and leader can do. I hope we see more of him and VIXX when he is done with his military service. (VIDEO)

7fd449a84e08475f8e61de6c0fe67756

So these are all my top choices. For me a center is someone who can keep you watching and who improves the performance even more. One thing I do think that every group needs is someone with a specific stage presence to fill the center position. If you don’t have that it is gonna be hard to make people notice you.

Who are your favorite choices for center whether it may be the official center position or just a member who mesmerizes you?

2Moons 2 – Reboot Review

On June 29th we started into a new adventure…2Moons 2 The Series started airing and with it came a pressure to perform well. The special pre-episode told us the first 3-4 episodes are gonna tell the story we all know and then the new plot lines are starting. For now 5 episodes have aired so I will review those for now and maybe a full on review later on.

A new start

Not long ago they announced they would re-tell some of the story from the previous 2Moons and would then go on to tell new story lines. So do not expect too much from the first 3 episodes since those are pretty much just a re-telling of the story and not much else.

x1080-1s2

Suprisingly the re-telling brings quite some new things and dynamics which you may have thought about but not seen before.
We get more insight into Kit’s feelings, as well as some spin on the back story between Phana and Wayo. Their story seems to have a whole different undertone but I give that to the new actors (which I will say more about later). In general the reboot/season 2 brings a whole different aura and feels like you may watch something new with a little bit of a deja-vu feeling beside it.

The Cast

I wasn’t really into the new cast at the beginning. Not because I liked the old one that much but because their acting in teasers and trailers seemed shallow. So what to really expect from the new cast? They are better than I imagined, really, BUT they are really different than before. You know the saying that every actor and actress gives new characteristics to a character? Well, this time it is definitely like that.

cover-2moons

So what changed? Well, Pha is definitely more tough character-wise and does seem a little bit colder. I think that fits really well considering Wayo never really knew his feelings were reciprocated and it would have been strange if he never noticed anything. We get some back story of how Pha finally realized his own feelings and stepped out of his comfort zone to admit he liked a guy (compliments for having such good friends who wanted him to be honest and support him). This side was totally missing from season 1. Also Pha seems a lot more playful around his friends and later on when he gets closer to Wayo. In general he seems to be the kind of guy who is really close and sweet when he knows someone well and kind of cold but polite when he meets some stranger. Before he was mostly handsome and in love with Wayo but this time he is a lot more playful in the relationship. I like the new characteristics a lot and it leads to a new set of scenes with Wayo. While this playfulness does make him seem younger, the kissing and more intimate scenes with Wayo give the character some feeling of being grown up, so we also get that.

Wayo is a little bit more awkward which doesn’t really hurt the role (since the character is awkward too) and also he does seem like someone who is in love with Pha for years. Previously he had more backbone and while he did seem like a guy with a crush, he did not seem like a guy in love all the time. In the first re-telling episodes the new Wayo kind of lost all backbone but do not worry, he gets more cheeky in episode 4 and 5, so we can hope for the future. I do think it’s nice though, to see the new Wayo with his little self-confidence but still being able to act like a normal person. He did not turn into a total soft person who doesn’t know the word “no”.

50kpzf

For his story line the producers stayed more loyal to his original story and it really was mostly re-telling at first and not many new scenes. I do admit that he was one of two characters I really was on the edge about whether I liked them or not. In episode four he was adorable so he had that going for him but he gets much better in episode 5, so I guess we will see even better acting from him from now on.

As for Ming and Kit: Ming seems a lot more age appropriate than before. I mean the characters are just starting their college years so it’s nice seeing him being confident but also young, cheeky and sometimes insecure. His friendship with Wayo seems a lot more to the ground too. Before it was this friendship between the cute little guy and the cheeky confident guy. This time it is more balanced and they actually seem as if this could be two real boys who have been friends for years and are there for each other when there is trouble. As for Kit, I think he’s my new favorite of the show. He seems the most natural of all of them and while you already see some of the underlying insecurities, he has a feeling of seniority about him and I appreciate it. It’s nice actual seeing him be their senior and not just the guy who gets weak when he’s around Ming. I do think their re-telling story line suffered a lot from the shortness of scenes but since the play a bigger role in the new story, I think we can all be excited for that. The two actors also mix quite well although I would like to see them a little bit more engaging since they seem a little bit stiff around each other. For episode 5, though, I give the biggest compliments to him, since the face he gave Ming, when he knew he was breaking the guy’s heart? That was acting-gold! You could see him being uncomfortable and not liking how the situation turned out. He did break the guy’s heart but at the same time he felt like an ass for doing so and didn’t really want to do it and you could see all that in his face. For now definitely my new favorite of the new cast!

While most of the others swayed from their previous characteristics, Forth is the one character most similar to his previous part. He is still tough with some fluff on the side. I did love the new scene between Pha and Forth. They seemed like friends, finally talking it out and I love how Forth accepted Pha’s interest in Yo but at the same time warned him to take good care of the little guy.

tumblr_pu8flmm68j1y3v792o2_500

We didn’t get much of Beam yet. He does seem like less of a playboy and in his scene with Kit you can already see where the story is going. Depending on the pace of the Kit-Ming story, I guess, we are getting our Forth-Beam couple. I’m curious how those two are gonna fit together. I did read the novels so yes, I’m excited.

Overall we are getting on a different ride than before and I am happy they are retelling the story since we can get to know the characters first. I think this was a really good decision since it would have been really awkward otherwise.

The background

As for the materials, rooms and so on, it’s nice and looks good, the only thing I am criticizing is the sounds in the movie. Sometimes the show gets the perfect song but a few times they did not play anything and you noticed the silence even more. I mean I was thinking: “did they screw up the editing?” At least for the first two episodes it was like that. It gets better by episode four. You can kind of see that they put more or better work into the new story then into the re-telling episodes, but I don’t really blame them for it. I think it is better this way and the new scenes, plot lines and story seem very interesting and fitting.

kxqj8f

Overall

It does seem like a nice show and I’m definitely gonna continue watching. Especially because they are releasing it with english subs. Since when are we getting that??? I love it. So let’s support them and start on this new journey.

Note: the kiss between Pha and Yo was really nice. Not just a shy little one but…well, I did not expect that much ^.^ nice seeing them change that and the actors really doing well.

So this was my review for the first four 2Moons 2 episodes. I know it is a little bit chaotic but I’m melting here. Still I hope you liked it. Now I’m gonna go back to getting grilled in the 37Β°C sun.

Review: The Lion King (2019)

Like promised here is my review for the 2019 film The Lion King, the reboot of the 1994 animated Disney movie of the same name. It is another installment of the Disney reboots coming out over the recent years.

Before I start, can I just ask “Why are Disney releasing two of their biggest hits in one year?” I don’t get it. I know they have a lot of popular Disney movies out there but Aladdin and The Lion King definitely belong to the big ones out there and I am really surprised to see them in the same year. Well, maybe it is just because they are my favorite Disney movies.

lion-king-trailer

General

If you haven’t watched The Lion King yet…well, were you ever a kid? Okay, if you don’t remember the story: Simba, son of the current lion king Mufasa, enjoys his life as the next king and throws it in everyone’s face. He also tends to get into trouble with his best friend Nala. One day his uncle Scar (who we know is the villain in the story) tricks him into a dangerous situation and makes Mufasa try to save his son. While trying to save him he is killed by Scar and the uncle makes Simba feel guilty for his father’s death, so the little lion runs away. All alone he meets Timon, a cheeky meerkat, and Pumbaa, a friendly warthog. They teach him to let go of the past and live for the future and he grows up with them. While he is away Scar tells everyone Mufasa and Simba are dead and takes over as king of the Pride Lands. He pretty much ruins the territory. Nala goes off to search for help and meets Simba, and the rest you can watch in cinemas.

I love The Lion King but I do admit I haven’t watched it for some time since I just could not stomach Mufasa’s death again. This was such a shock and pretty much Disney’s most dramatic death scene since Bambi.

the-lion-king_pjtyrh

But when Disney announced they were gonna reboot The Lion King with a real life animated movie I was definitely gonna watch it, despite all the doubts I had. The Lion King is known for it’s great music and it has some pretty great animated song sequences. But if you want to convert that to real-life animation you have to cut a lot of the animation down since a lot of the stuff could never happen in real life (you remember the pyramid of animals in “I Just Can’t Wait To Be King”?) I doubted they could convert it well and thought the movie would suffer from that. I wasn’t totally wrong but I wasn’t right either.

The songs

The songs in the new movie are pretty much the same we know from the original, except there is a new montage song when Simba goes back to the Pride Lands…except for that I don’t think there are any other new songs. But what about the songs we know? Okay, be prepared to be a little bit disappointed here. They really did their best with the songs and to renew them with some new sass and modern styles but some songs where changed and cut down pretty obviously. The singing itself is nice and the voice cast did a good job delivering the lines according to their characters attitudes and feelings.

null

About the animation sequences: They did as much as you can do if you want to do it in real-life animation. And Disney did well. It looks really good and seems reasonable. Like Zazu not being sat on by a rhino but being distracted by the other animals. Disney did an amazing job with the sequences, they look beautiful while also staying true to the original. The only thing I did not like was the first song. In the original opening scene and the “Cicle of Life” sequence, they played a lot with the colors and light but in this animated movie it was a lot more chaotic and so. I mean the scene itself isn’t gonna happen in real life anyway but it would have been nice to see it a little more dramatic. Overall I’m pretty happy and satisfied with the songs though. The Lion King is known for it’s music and Disney did a great job at delivering them!

The animation

Now let’s talk about the animation in general. Not much to talk about there though. It. Is. Absolutely. Amazing. Seriously, it is. It looks so real and it’s so detailed…no wonder the movie cost them over 250 million US-Dollars. The animators are definitely geniuses and the animation is really great.

The story and fillers

In Aladdin, they had to add a lot of filler scenes and change some stuff because it was either not politically correct anymore or it would have made no sense. There are some things you can do in 2D-animated movies, you cannot do in live-action or real-life animated movies. That’s how it is. In The Lion King there were also a few not really correct jokes and Disney changed them for the 2019 movie. In general, they stuck to the original storyline and scenes pretty tightly but the script did change to some part. While the lions pretty much stuck to the original script (except for some fillers, like Scar wanting to get Sarabi, Simba’s mother, to be his queen) the characters who suffered most from script changing were Timon and Pumbaa. Some jokes were cut while other lines were added. I do remember a few jokes you would not be able to make today, so I understand the changes. Still, Timon and Pumbaa are great in the movie and Seth Rogen and Billy Eichner did a great job at delivering their lines.

For most of the movie, Disney stayed loyal to the original and only added stuff, that made it more modern or added some interesting story lines that weren’t there in the original.

Overall

Overall the movie is a great reminder of the 1994 original and makes you remember all the great times watching the movie and being sucked into the world of The Lion King. The animation is great and the songs are modern but still similar enough to the original. I’m positively surprised by the movie and definitely love it, although different to the Aladdin reboot – the original The Lion King will still be on top of the 2019 reboot.

Still I recommend watching it in cinema. It is an adventure you don’t get everyday and while you may know the story it keeps you on your seat and enjoying the movie as if it was your first time watching the The Lion King story. So enjoy one of the biggest Disney movies in new animation and have a great time with the characters we all know and love!
