BL Thailand – Who To Know?

Some time ago I released a series of BL introductions and BL 101 if you’re new to the genre. I also included a Who To Know? then but I decided to make a new one, just because so many things have changed. 2019 was a great year for BL shows even if we had to wait a lot and there were some down phases. Overall it was a good year with many new shows, many surprises and one or the other gem down the line.

In this post I want to give you an updated version of who to know in the BL acting world, specifically Thailand because that is the one country where you see some actors return either for main roles or at least for supporting roles in other shows. Also because it is the one country with the most BL shows I know, so I decided to go with what I do know.

So here are some of the actors you should know and recognize when delving into the world of BL…enjoy…

Singto Prachaya Ruangroj (He’s Coming To Me)

singto3

Born: 1994
Let’s start off with a name you should really know. He has been on the acting radar ever since he acted in the highly popular SOTUS series alongside co-star and friend Krist Sangpotirat Perawat and has been on the up-and-coming ever since. He has acted in multiple other shows including the U-Prince Series, Friend Zone and the touching series He’s Coming To Me alongside Ohm Pawat. In 2020 he will return with the non-BL show Turn Left Turn Right as well as in the second installment of Friend Zone, Friend Zone 2: Dangerous Area, both GMM shows. He has proven multiple times he can act well and can play different characters, especially with his character in He’s Coming To Me, he showed he can play the shy but playful character too and can adapt to his surroundings and co-stars. Definitely a name to be curious about in the future, especially because he didn’t seem to be against playing a BL character after SOTUS and is one of the few actors who played LGBT+ characters in more than one series. We fans definitely thank him for it because he really is one talented actor.

Mild Suttinut Uengtrakul (Love’s Coming)

mild

Born: 1993
You may not have known his name but you might have seen his face multiple times. He has appeared in some shows either as a main character or a supporting role. He has been part of the main couple in the charming Love’s Coming, as well as the kinda confusing The Best Twins. You may have also seen him in the movie Red Wine in the Dark Night, the messy series What the Duck and at the moment he is starring as Techno in TharnType The Series. He is one of the examples of seeing an actor develop. While in the beginning his acting seemed awkward and strange, he has really changed and learned over time and shows some good acting scenes in TT. I am very curious where his journey takes him in the future.

Mew Suppasit Jongcheveevat (What the Duck)

mew1.jpg

Born: 1991
This actor has some scandals, issues and whatever behind him but I still want to mention him here. First because he seems to be really good at adapting to different characters and also because he was connected to the messy and confusing What The Duck. Seriously, even until now, I don’t get the series. But since he acted in that show, I decided to give him another chance with the new TharnType The Series. And while the show is quite on the edge regarding some of their content, this actor definitely delivers a steady and balanced acting job. Before it was hard to judge whether his acting made Pree in WTD awkward or whether it was the character itself. Well, TT proves it was the character itself (actually no real surprise there, the show is a full on crash against the wall) and I definitely hope Mew will continue delighting us with shows.

New Thitipoom Techaapaikhun (Kiss Series)

new3.jpg

Born: 1993
If you don’t know New, you are either totally new to the BL genre or you are just clueless, like totally. I count New Thitipoom as one of the three actors with the most BL shows on his record. The other two being Singto Prachaya (SOTUS, Friend Zone, He’s Coming To Me) and Gun Atthaphan (Puppy Honey, Theory of Love, The Blue Hour, and so on…). New has acted as Apo in Water Boyy The Series as well as Kao in the long running series Kiss, a series that is currently airing its third and highly anticipated installment, Dark Blue Kiss. But his roles also include a lot of non-BL roles, like as Singto Prachaya’s best friend in SOTUS, M. He was also part of multiple installments of the U-Prince series and had a main role in the 2019 shows Wolf and Love Beyond Frontier. Seriously, his acting record is quite long and it seems we will get to see more of him in the future. He has developed his acting and proven time and time again he knows how to do a scene well. I cannot wait to see more of this cutie and see where his future is leading him 🙂

Tay Tawan Vihokratana (Kiss Series)

tay3.jpg

Born: 1991
New’s longtime co-actor and another GMM TV boy. Tay Tawan is another name you should definitely know. His acting record is pretty long too. He has acted as Pete in the long running series Kiss, a series that – as I mentioned above – is currently airing its third and highly anticipated installment, Dark Blue Kiss. He has also appeared as a supporting role in more shows I can count, and had a main role in Secret Seven and the 2019 drama series 3 Will Be Free. In 2020 he will have a supporting role in the GMM TV series Military of Love. Tay Tawan is steadily building his acting record with the one or the other BL show or character and I appreciate that he seems to be open to play more complex and complicated characters. I’m looking forward to seeing more of this great and charming guy in the future!

Saint Suppapong Udomkaewkanjana (Love By Chance)

saint3.jpg

Born: 1998
Saint first came onto everyone’s radar with the highly popular and fanatically loved BL series Love By Chance. Even I have re-watched the series more times than I can count. In his more recent acting projects he has taken on roles different from the shy and quiet character Pete from LBC. Currently he set to act as Tutor in the 2020 BL series Why R U?, a series I’m looking forward to dearly. Different from a lot of actors on this list, he has almost only been acting in shows and no big movie projects. He did do some short movies/music videos that can be found on Youtube but otherwise he has taken to shows on television. I’m really curious what is coming for this young boy in the future, especially since he is only 21 this year, so we will see how he builds up his acting record and repertoire. He has already proven he can play tougher characters too. I hope after 2020 he will appear in more BL shows too and not leave the BL world behind him like some others did after some time.

Earth Pirapat Watthanasetsiri (Water Boyy The Series)

earth

Born: 1994
Funny enough, Earth is one of the actors most BL fans know the name and the face of. Mainly because he seems to appear everywhere. He had a main role in Water Boyy The Series and the second installment of the Kiss series – Kiss Me Again, as well as a supporting role in the popular shows Love By Chance and Theory of Love. Let me translate – he acted with New and Tay from the Kiss series, also with New in Water Boyy, he appeared with Saint, Perth, Mean and Plan in Love By Chance and also Off and Gun in Theory of Love. Whoever you are a fan of, at least one of their shows had Earth in them. No wonder why most fans know his face and name. 2019 and 2020 also showed he seemed to be open to playing LGBT+ characters, something I highly praise him for. He appeared as part of the surprise fan-favorite couple TwoUn in Theory of Love, with his co-star White Nawat Phumphothingam (Love Sick) and is set to appear in the BL series A Tale Of Thousand Stars in 2020. It seems like a dramatic but wonderful love story, so I am excited for it. I’m excitedly asking myself where he will pop up in the future.

Off Jumpol Adulkittiporn (Theory Of Love)

off4.jpg

Born: 1991
Another 91-liner, the oldest age group on this list. Off has been on the radar of BL fans ever since his role in Senior Secret Love: Puppy Honey. He played the cold but caring Pick and was first paired with his now long-time co-star and friend Gun Atthaphan. They have shown multiple times they have perfect chemistry and GMMTV has given them even their own shows like the talk show OffGun Fun Night (which is currently airing season 2) and the BL series Theory Of Love, where we could finally see Off and Gun as a drama couple again. In Theory Of Love, Off could finally show his matured and complex acting which didn’t really show in Puppy Honey. Even if TOL is a story full of bad timing and even worse decisions, the series is definitely one of the BL shows with the best acting. I really hope Off takes on more complex characters in the future, he has already appeared in a lot of non-BL shows too, and I’m excited to see how his acting develops to even better levels.

Gun Atthaphan Phunsawat (Theory Of Love)

gun7.jpg

Born: 1993
There is a reason why people call Gun Atthaphan the king – or sometimes queen – of BL. First, he is 26 years old in 2019 and still has a baby face. Second, I don’t think anyone has acted as a LGBT+ character as many times as him: Senior Secret Love: Puppy Honey, Bittersweet Chocolate (and it’s second installment), Love Love You, The Blue Hour and Theory Of Love. And he pulls all of the roles off perfectly. Gun has shown steady and good acting from the beginning and has been known for taking on more complex roles and characters. He played tough bad asses, as well as cute and shy guys. He also appeared in non-BL roles, most known, he appeared as the straight A’s student Punn in the drama heavy and fan-favorite series The Gifted. In 2020 he is returning as Punn for the second installment The Gifted Graduation. I’m curious what projects he is going to do in the future but judging from his current acting I’m quite sure, he is the one actor I trust to pull of any role given to him.

Earth Katsamonnat Namwirote (Love By Chance)

earth2.jpg

Born: 1996
This is quite a new name on this list. His acting record isn’t that long right now but I expect more in the future. He had a main role in the popular series Love By Chance and is set to appear in the dramatic BL series Until We Meet Again in 2019. He is definitely part of the cutie line on this list and seems to be really good at adapting to his co-stars and giving good chemistry. I’m excited to see him in UWMA and curious how his acting developed since his last project. I think we can expect more from him in the future, especially since he doesn’t seem to shy away from playing LGBT+ characters.

Fluke Natouch Siripongthon (Red Wine In The Dark Night)

fluke.jpg

Born: 1996
Fluke Natouch is one of the few actors who has acted in as many movies as TV shows, although it seems his movie roles have been bigger than the TV roles he got. He appeared in the widely known movie My Bromance, where we still don’t know when the second installment is going to come out, also in the dark and moody movie Red Wine In The Dark Night and in the movie Ghost Ship. I still have no idea whether that movie is a comedy or a scary movie…it is a change from what I’ve been watching til now and Fluke definitely pulled of the role of Yorla in the movie. I really like him in the movie especially because the role was so different than what you might know from him usually. As for shows, he appeared as a main role in Part Of Love, had a few supporting roles and is set to appear as a supporting role in the 2019 non-BL show Blacklist, as well as the main character in the 2019 BL series Until We Meet Again. He has yet to appear in a highly popular BL series but I think UWMA has good chances and he is also one of the few actors where I don’t worry about his acting skills at all. He has proven himself multiple times and he can definitely pull of fun but also serious characters.

Ohm Pawat Chittsawangdee (He’s Coming To Me)

ohm-singto-02b.jpg

Born: 2000
Say hello to the youngest actor on this list. He may be the youngest but his acting record is…well, long, especially considering he is only 19! He made his debut into the BL world with Make It Right and as part of the fan-favorite couple FrameBook. Ever since then he has a appeared in non-BL shows like War of High School but also reprised his role as Frame in Make It Right 2. In 2019 he also surprised everyone with the BL tearjerker He’s Coming To Me alongside Singto Prachaya and giving us a couple we didn’t know we wanted but we loved them nonetheless – seriously their chemistry was awesome. Currently he is starring in the series Blacklist and set to appear as a main role in the 2020 shows The Shipper and Military Of Love. He is definitely on the up-and-coming and considering he is so young, I think we can expect to see even more and even better projects in the future.

Special Mention:

Yacht Surat Permpoonsavat

yacht

Born: 1997
He is the only one on this list, I think, who has not been a main character in a BL series. He has mostly been set as supporting and guest character but he has appeared in the widely known Love By Chance. Also pretty recently he acted in The Effect. And after watching I have to say, both times he has acted as the best friend you could ever wish for in life. I mean seriously, you just have to love him. He has not appeared in many shows and has not been a main character that is why I’ve only mentioned him on the side but I just wanted to get it out there, that his characters are really the best friends you could ever ask for. And his acting is also really natural, maybe because it’s similar to himself or because he is an amazing actor. Whether it is one or the other, I wholeheartedly compliment him and hope we see more of him in the future.

So this is my list of Who To Know and who to look out for. I hope you liked it. I tried to add actors who appeared in multiple shows whether as a main or as a supporting character. Let’s see how they will surprise us in the future, I hope we see more of them whether it’s BL shows or not! (although I’d appreciate the one or the other BL show 🙂 )

Top 10 K-Pop Centers (Member)

Before I start, I’m not talking about something like a K-Pop institute or so but like it says in the title, I’m talking about the members (position). For everyone who does not know: K-Pop groups normally have positions and roles for each member. The standard is: the leader, the main dancer, the main vocal, the visual, the maknae (youngest) and the main rapper. Normally the best dancer or the visual gets the center position most often. Of course, there are exceptions and of course, the center can not always have the center position because the others have lines too. But during the chorus we mostly see the center position. This was highlighted a lot in the idol survival show series Produce 101 where the trainees had to assign positions in their groups. It’s funny how it got more attention there, while in the groups themselves it is mentioned less and less.

Well, in this post I’m am gonna share my own opinion about the top 10 members in groups who have center positions (or who are in the center a lot and suit the role well) and who are doing a great job. My judging criteria are:

  • they do a good job at dancing, singing, etc. and do not mess up in the front (at least not regularly)
  • they pull your gaze to them and make you focus on them
  • they have good facial reactions to the song and whatever is going on
  • they are put in the center a lot

Note that this is my opinion, so if you want to add someone, just tell me in the comments below, I love exchanging opinions 🙂

Note: some members/groups may not be mentioned because their center changes quite often depending on the song or sometimes just because there are a lot of members.

10 – Jungkook (BTS)

BTS is known for giving great performances and having a great stage presence. So, of course, the center has to do an amazing job. Jungkook does just that. He is good at singing, dancing and giving good reactions. There’s a reason why people say he is pretty much perfect. The reason why he’s at number 10? Because he does not stand out as much. Meaning: BTS as a whole is a presence you won’t see regularly and all of them have a great aura but regarding stage presence, Jungkook is not the top contender in his group. Still, he has the official center position for a reason and is one of the top talented idols out there.

9 – Soyeon ((G)-Idle)

(G)-Idle is a newer group and not as known as some others on this list, but still Soyeon deserves to be here. While I did not really watch her pre-debut, she manages to catch your eye and delivers some of the best gazes and stage energy ever. She catches your interest for the future. Let’s see where it goes…

large

8 – SinB (G-Friend)

SinB is another member on this list who does actually have the official center position in her group. And she has it for a reason. She delivers performances with such a confidence and energy, you get the feeling she knows exactly what she is doing and she is doing it perfectly. She matches every song and feeling and while she is more on the back bench in the music videos, she stands out even more in the live performances, making her an unbelievably good center.

sin-b-gfriend2-1024x683

7 – Yoona (Girls’ Generation)

Girls’ Generation is one of the few groups where the center position changes over the years depending on the song. Whatever song it was, though, if you put Yoona as a center, she proved she could do an amazing job. She pulled your gaze to her and engaged you into the song. While she may not be the best dancer or best singer in her group you could just see her take you on a ride with the song and make you listen even more closely, whatever genre the song may be.

af84c50f28fee3ca89fa9463389b580d

6 – Hani (EXID)

This choice is pretty clear, I think. I mean the fancam of Hani made the group more known and gave them some recognition and they actually managed to keep the fame which is not always the case. Hani, though, while she does not really stand out in her group since EXID in total and the other members have a big stage presence too, she does deliver all the right feelings and faces for the songs. She looks sexy when it needs the sexy concept, she looks lovely, when she should look lovely and she looks fierce, when it’s a strong and cool song. She matches the songs and stages and gets you even more engaged into the song.

exid-hani

5 – Ayno (VAV)

This name may come as a surprise but it is a deserved spot in the list. I was surprised myself. Ayno is mostly in the center for his group and there is a reason for it. He knows how to pull you in. He makes the chorus even more catchy and he has the gaze and the dancing and knows how to use it all to be a great center. I admit even if someone else is singing the chorus, your eyes are gonna be on him. I don’t know if he has the official center position but I do think so. He definitely deserves it :)(VIDEO)

d9znq9c

4 – JooE (Momoland)

The next four spots are taken by idols who know how to make themselves known and who know how to deliver a performance. For JooE it is less her adapting to a song but more her stage energy, though. She does every single song with an energy that makes you notice her and watch her. Her energy makes you enjoy the song more and have more fun with the upbeat Momoland songs. It doesn’t even matter if she is in the center or not, she shows an energy you don’t see every day.(VIDEO)

3 – Kai (EXO)

I have to admit, I’m not a Kai fan. I don’t know why, don’t ask me. At the same time, I do have to admit that he is great as EXO’s center. He is a great dancer and good singer and shows everything he’s got as the center. I still remember he already stood out in their debut song Mama and it only got better and more amazing over time. He definitely deserves to be called on of the best K-Pop centers out there.(VIDEO)

kai

2 – Taeyong (NCT)

I was no NCT fan when they debuted. Their music isn’t my style (whatever sub-unit it may be) and I wasn’t into their concepts either. Well, I’m still not their biggest fan but even I see that Taeyong is…well, different than most idols. He has a stage presence that you can rarely see anywhere. He delivers the right gaze and the perfect energy in every video and every live performance. It was seriously surprising how calm he seems in real life (or real life as portrayed in reality shows and so on). He seems rather shy there while on stage he seems more like a force to be reckoned with. An idol like Taeyong definitely shows what a performance has to look like.(VIDEO)

taeyong-nct-baby-dont-stop

1 – N (VIXX)

Talking about stage presence and performance, let’s take it to the kings of concepts, VIXX, and their leader, N. While he may get some of his talent from studying dance and whatever not, there is just no real explanation for his over-the-top stage presence. The group in general lives off of pulling you into their songs and concepts but N has the talent to just take you in even more and focus on him like no one else out there. Whether it is a video, a performance on TV or a live performance in front of you, he takes it all. I still remember showing a VIXX music video to friends and one of them just went like “Who. Is. That?” when seeing N. His little smirks, winks, smiles, waves and all the other little moves support his and VIXX’ stages and make you enthralled in their music. I’ve never seen anyone who could pull you in as much as him whether it is in Korea or anywhere else. He is someone who keeps your eyes on him whether he’s your bias or not. And while he manages to get your attention all the time, he knows how to make the other members shine too and supports them. I guess, that’s what a performer and leader can do. I hope we see more of him and VIXX when he is done with his military service. (VIDEO)

7fd449a84e08475f8e61de6c0fe67756

So these are all my top choices. For me a center is someone who can keep you watching and who improves the performance even more. One thing I do think that every group needs is someone with a specific stage presence to fill the center position. If you don’t have that it is gonna be hard to make people notice you.

Who are your favorite choices for center whether it may be the official center position or just a member who mesmerizes you?

My Top 10 K-Pop duos

K-Pop duos are not as uncommon as someone would think though they have been mentioned less and less in the past few years (with a few exceptions). In the following post I’ll talk about the top K-Pop duos who always impress and leave a lasting expression (in my opinion). Sub-units included by the way!

Note: if you have a different opinion leave it in the comments below, I always appreciate new takes on the topic 🙂 also note I did some research before writing but the topic is not as widely spread as you would think, so it was hard finding more duos and check them out.

Note2: There were originally the Top 20 but it got a little bit confusing with who I liked better so I just decided to go with 10 instead, so maybe I did check out some duos you know, that are not mentioned on this list.

#10 – GD & Taeyang

Yes, there have been big (like really BIG) scandals around Big Bang, but I’m not here to discuss that, so I’m just gonna judge them by the song now. GD & Taeyang have not released a lot of songs, I know, but the song Good Boy is just so addicting and catchy and I still remember when it came out, everyone knew it. And for a sub-unit to get so much recognition is uncommon.

#9 – HiSuhyun

While there was only one song, this song was amazing. Everyone knows that both Lee Hi and Suhyun have amazing and distinctive voices and together they just sound so great. Lee Hi’s soulful and deeper voice and Suhyun’s higher voice, I just love it. Also I adored the music video, it was really cute.

#8 – 15&

One of the best vocal idol duos I guess. Both of the members, Park Jimin and Baek Yerin, have amazing vocals and proved time and time again, that they can sing and enthrall an audience. It’s unfortunate they are not getting as much recognition as they should get but maybe someday in the future they will finally be more known out there.

#7 – Norazo

I discovered this duo of Jo Bin and Lee Hyuk quite some time ago and tbh, they are strange. And not just a little bit, but really strange. Still I love them so much. Especially because they do really funny music videos and performances but all of that with a straight face. That’s what I call professionalism. I do think it’s sad that one of them decided to leave the group but he probably had his reasons. And the new song with the new member Won Heum is like really catchy, so no complaints from me. I appreciate that Jo Bin decided to continue on with the music and Norazo.

#6 – Bolbbalgan4

Okay, let me be honest here. I’m not really a big fan of Bolbbalgan4. I’m not. There music style is not really my taste and I don’t really fancy their songs but even I have to admit, the make good music and people love them a lot. That’s mainly the reason they are on this list and so high up. You just cannot escape BOL4 when talking about duos.

#5 – Davichi

Davichi is probably one of the most known duos in the K-Pop industry. Ballads over ballads over ballads. And all of them are really nice to listen too. What made me love them even more is when I saw a performance of them. They could really sing as well as the recorded song. Which, even I have to admit it, is rare to find these days. There are not many artists out there (worldwide) who sound the same when singing live and when playing a recorded version. So, thanks for the amazing live performance, Davichi!

#4 – Super Junior D&E

There are a few sub-units and units that made it to the top of this list. SuJu D&E is one of them. The duo consists of Donghae and Eunhyuk and is a sub-unit of the K-Pop group Super Junior. They actually had a lot more releases in Japanese than in Korean but I still love them. Their songs are sometimes catchy, sometimes funny, a few times serious and touching but always charismatic. They mix so well and it is just so much fun to watch them together. In general, I’m a Super Junior fan as one of the legends in the K-Pop genre, as well as them being amazing in so many different things. D&E just ask for your attention and they’ll definitely get it.

#3 – TVXQ

Originally TVXQ! was a five member group but after some contract trouble they split and only Changmin and Yunho remained. But still, they make an amazing duo. One thing you can say about every single one of their songs and performances – they make you look and stare. They just capture your eye whatever they do and no matter if there are like 10 background dancers. Yunho and Changmin just match so well with each other and you see them complimenting each other in every way.

#2 – Trouble Maker

Not really a sub-unit, more like a special unit, Trouble Maker. Consisting of Kim Hyuna (of 4minute – disbanded) and Jang Hyunseung (formerly from Beast). When the unit first started, there was sooooo much going on. I think so many people freaked out over them and their song Troublemaker. Also, on stage kissing? Yes, you heard right. First there was a co-ed duo out there, which was pretty rare in 2011 when they debuted, and then the even kissed for a performance. In general both of them knew how to tease the audience and make them swoon. I have to say both of them are awesome performers, so it is really sad that they disbanded when Hyuna left the label.

:Honorary mentions:

Sister19 – A group that had like one hit song but that one really hit it big. I mean people still know the song.

JJ Project – Even if the members themselves are a little bit embarrassed every time their JJ Project debut song is mentioned I do still remember how that song is just great for full volume and just rocking it out while jumping and dancing like a crazy person.

#1 – Akdong Musician

And here it is, my number one. I know it probably wasn’t that much of a surprise. But let’s be honest, right from the beginning AKMU got everyone excited with their interesting lyrics, composition and voices and signing with YG Entertainment was a great decision for them. They released a lot of different song. They have different sounds but you can still hear it is them, so you can really say they found their own sound. I cannot wait for Lee Chanhyuk to come back from his military service and them to come back from their hiatus.

So these were my top 10 K-Pop duos. What are yours?

Review: ReminderS

Filling every BL fans heart with giggles and a big smile was the short series ReminderS. Here a short review about the series and why you should probably check it out. But judge for yourself.

I tried to skip any spoilers but I probably didn’t succeed all the time so sorry.

im-ready-gif-5

General

ReminderS is a 3 episode short series (more like a special) aired on LINE TV. It was released from April 17th to April 20th 2019 and features actors from the popular BL series’ Love By Chance (2018) and Love Sick (2014 – 15). The trailer came out like a week before the special actually aired…Okay, maybe it was a month before but I’m not too sure. It definitely wasn’t long before the show actually aired. The full title of the show is REMINDERS Because I Miss You. While it was not clear in the beginning if the LBC couples would feature in the show (which they are not), the trailer already told all the fans that we would see the long-awaited return of one of the original BL couples, Phun and Noh from Love Sick. As for the LBC actors, it features Perth and Saint (originally acted as Ae and Pete in LBC respectively) as Pin and Son, and Mean and Plan (originally playing Tin and Can respectively) as Two and Wish. All three are already couples in the series and it is about them facing some drama in their relationships.

Do not be confused now though – this is a special. Which means the episodes are at most 30 minutes long and there are just three (!) of them, so there isn’t much to the story, since the show is, in fact, mostly a reminder and to remember some of great feelings we had when watching the original shows.

Also I had some people asking again why the LBC actors are not acting as their LBC characters. Check this out, I mentioned some possible reasons there: HERE

oxpq3f

The story

So the story of the series is pretty simple. All six are students at university, some of them studying together but as far as I understood, most of them are studying different subjects. Not that that fact is sooo important but well…
In general, the story skips a lot with introducing the cast as couples right from the beginning and PinSon/ TwoWish already knowing each other but getting to know PhunNoh in the series. And getting to know each other more leads to more misunderstandings than you would think.

The series also features some cameo appearances. Some, we already saw in the trailer, but some are a welcome surprise. I won’t spoil them though 😉

The new couples

I won’t say more about the story but let’s just talk about the couples. As for the PinSon and TwoWish couple, it’s like they took the LBC characters’ best traits, added some spice and fun to it and created them for this show. Which translated to “it’s awesome to watch”. Also the new characters seem to be a little more natural for the actors and seem to represent more of their own character than the previous characters, making the couples seem even more convincing, which is really needed since we don’t actually see them falling in love but are just stuck in the middle of their relationship, so chemistry and convincing feelings are a must. And Perth, Saint, Mean and Plan deliver. One thing I really appreciated here was also that it wasn’t just couple scenes but that we got some Perth / Mean fun scenes too. It was interesting seeing them acting together, especially since this time their characters didn’t hate each other. Really enjoyed that.

The comeback couple

As for the Phun / Noh couple. The chemistry those two had…well, after 5 (!) years I was afraid it would be really awkward and it wouldn’t be there anymore, BUT IT IS! Yes! Right from the first episode of the special it’s there. The actors and the characters seem so comfortable around each other that you just get the feeling they actually spend their time from school until college together and didn’t follow their own paths and projects like in real life. And I think that says a lot for their acting abilities and chemistry that it’s still as strong as ever after 5 years. Here I also want to compliment them on their acting in general. Love Sick was always a classic and I love it but we all have to admit, a lot of the acting was awkward in the beginning because they did not have much acting experience. Well, seems they learned a lot in those 5 years, because they were really really good in ReminderS. They really give you the feeling they’re not actors but you have their characters in front of you. And this is one of the things I liked about Love Sick in general. It just sucked you in. ReminderS isn’t any different. It’s short, it’s not much story, but all of the couples suck you in and you won’t be able to stop watching them and cheering for them.

One thing I loved in the series – while there was drama for all three couples, some had more and some had less and all of them actually featured different problems. And I loved how Phun and Noh helped the other couples while also facing some insecurities of their own.

Okay, but…

Since it wouldn’t be a real review if I did not mention the bad stuff too, here it is: ReminderS big bad thing is…it’s not any good if you haven’t at least watched Love By Chance or Love Sick. ReminderS is, like its name says, pretty much a “reminder” of the couples, the actors, the memories, the shows. It is mostly a sentimental show. Which means if you neither enjoyed LBC or LS, don’t watch it. If you enjoyed one of them though, this is definitely a must-watch. Especially since it is a promotion for the long awaited upcoming third season of Love Sick.

The memories

I kept the most important stuff for the end. If you are a hard-core Love Sick lover, like me, you will pretty much stop three seconds into the first episode. At least I had too. The music just takes you right back and I just remembered the time I started watching Love Sick and actually getting into the BL world. I had watched other shows before but this one introduced me to the Thai BL world and ever since then I have to say, my life changed. While others watch Game Of Thrones and bet who is gonna die next, I’m sitting here grinning like a fool because I get a major flashback from 3 seconds of a song.

maxresdefault2

For those non-Love Sick fans or viewers, you have to understand: I had never before watched a show like Love Sick and its chemistry before. Remember the first time you watched a Thai BL series and how you felt back then. The one show that made you fall in love with Thailand and Thai BL. For me that is Love Sick. And seriously, we have so many shows where we won’t get a another season (Love By Chance, Addicted, WaterBoyy, 2Moons – at least not with the same actors, etc.) that a lot of LS fans thought that we won’t ever get more from Love Sick. Technically it has a second season and after five years you just stop thinking about it…until they announce it and you go crazy. Also because it wasn’t clear if the actors are coming back and still have the same chemistry. Well, ReminderS settles that I think (although I don’t want to jinx it, so I’ll keep praying for it even now).

ReminderS for me was like a trip back to innocent little me starting to watch her first Thai series, not knowing what to expect, and experiencing for the first time a couple she cheered, cried, laughed, screamed and giggled with more than ever before and finding out that being close to someone doesn’t necessarily mean being physically close but it can also mean that you care for someone more than for anyone else. I think that best describes it.

Conclusion

So, yes, ReminderS mostly has sentimental value for me but whether you are a LBC or LS fan, ReminderS is a great heal for you heart and for watching something light and short to enjoy yourself.

And while I almost fainted in the first three seconds of the series, seriously the ending sequence pretty much killed me ❤

If you are a LS or LBC fan, watch it. If you are not a fan of at least one of those shows…why not? And if you haven’t watched them, please watch them and be sucked into this craziness with us, so we can all wait together for the third season …that still has no release date T.T

Bonus for Love Sick fans – just found this one, I could not stop laughing remembering. Still remember this scene?

So lucky #randomremarks

I recently decided that I’d like to post some updates regularly. Updates like: what is new in the BL world, what kind of song releases are interesting at the moment, what movies are in the cinema right now and so on.

You can find the first one of these, here.

So what is new this week?
We got some new BL news also a short review on Dumbo. Maybe I’m gonna give you a full one later on. Also we got some new trailers.

Dreams coming true (BL corner)

Mark it in the calendar, next week is the finale of He’s Coming To Me. I don’t know whether to be excited or afraid …

I think something that has a lot of BL fans taking a big breath at the moment is this little special called Reminders (or ReminderS). If you have not heard about it yet, here is your chance to find out why everyone is going crazy right now: It was pretty clear from the beginning that the widely popular series Love By Chance is not going to get another season. There were so many troubles regarding the airing and channel changing of the series that it was like 95% sure there was not gonna be another one and so a lot of people prayed for another season and a little miracle. Well, we are not exactly getting another season but we are getting something.

ReminderS tells the story of three couples and yes, two of them are build with the actors from Love By Chance. We are about to see more of Perth and Saint and Mean and Plan and can go crazy about them again. One thing you need to keep in mind though – the characters are not AePete/TinCan. Yes, I heard it is because the rights for the story went back to the author recently and since there have been some problems in the beginning when LINE TV took over the airing of LBC, so they probably couldn’t mention the characters anymore and changed it. Do not worry though, since the new characters are just as amazing, maybe with a few additional character traits but all of them having some parts of their initial characters in them.

Another big surprise from ReminderS, though, is nothing other than Phun and Noh from Love Sick coming back! Yes, even before the announced third season of the series, we are getting a little snippet of them and I just could not stop smiling while watching it. I just love them so much and Love Sick is such a classic and started so much for me that I cannot wait!!! So only episode 1 aired already, the other episodes coming on Friday, 19th and I think Sunday, 21st (but not sure about the second one though), and I can tell you, I love seeing the LBC actors together, I love their new character traits but what I love even more: Phun and Noh more grown up, still having some of their charm from Love Sick and the chemistry still being there! I also really appreciate that they seem to be the most stable couple in this 3 episode “reminder” 🙂 Maybe the director decided to keep the big drama to the third season and give us a treat with a drama free short special…hahahahaha, we all know that’s not gonna happen 😀

I mean we all know they just want to make some promotion for Love Sick and also give fans something in return with the LBC couples and PhunNoh but still, I’m excited! So episode one already aired, episode is out on April 20th!!

For BL fans there is also other good news, we are getting some Love By Chance candies in general. While it is not totally clear yet if the whole thing is with the Love By Chance characters or if it’s just the same actors playing different roles – though I doubt that since even two of the couples are the same, did not see AePete though (probably same problem as mentioned above), but Perth (Ae’s actor) is coming back. Well there are gonna be three movies called Love: Must Fight, Love: Must Slap and Love: Must Take It Off and they feature some of our favourite couples bringing us smiles and hopefully no tears this time!! Other good news, release date is May 5th.

Get ready for a full on Disney year! (Movie Mania corner)

Disney has never been a company that releases a movie trailer like a month before the actual release. Usually they release a teaser around a year before and a full on trailer at least three to four months prior. Well, with this in mind, I waited for the actual The Lion King trailer on the edge of my seat. There were some doubts since they could have released the trailer on the same day Aladdin starts in cinema but fortunately they kept to their usual and released it two days ago.

Soooo…The Lion King seems to have the same problem as Aladdin, the villain sounds too smooth and soft but while I was surprised by Scar’s voice I was more interested and excited for Simba’s voice…well, Disney decided to keep that for themselves for some time more. You hear Scar, Timon and Pumba and Mufasa but no Simba. But I did enjoy the little singing snippet of Timon and Pumba at the end. I am still curious how they are going to animate all the other song sequences – since seriously, The Lion King is so famous for its music, you cannot make a movie without the musical sequences – but since they seem to have done a great job with Aladdin, I am going to believe in Disney and trust them to make my favourite Disney movie into a must-watch miracle. (haha…no pressure at all, I know)

As for the Dumbo movie, I just watched it in cinema this week (or since I am going to release this on Tuesday, it would be last week then): The animation is nice and the acting is really great, especially since I watched it in Spanish and I may not have understood everything they said but those parts I did not understand I understood with their acting 🙂 The only flaw the movie really has is the fact that it is sooooo cheesy. Like a serious cringe factor. It is endearing and charming and sweet but if you cannot watch a romance or kids movie without cringing, this one will probably make you cringe too. The few but still existing funny snippets of the movie are great though and the chemistry between all the actors seems really nice and binds everything together. Also Dumbo is so cute ❤

dumbo_sb5gr

Oh and today I went and watched The Kid Who Would Be King. Short review: the CGI and production of the movie is amazing, the actors are more than just nice, you can see they give it their all and they definitely succeeded. The humor is really funny and the modern spin on the movie is like a fresh breath of air. There are a few overly cheesy and dramatic scenes though, so if you are like me and don’t shy away from watching a movie made for a younger audience even though you are not part of that predicted audience, feel free to watch and enjoy! I had a blast even though I had to go to the toilet in the middle of it…don’t drink too much coke guys!

K-Pop comebacks and dance covers (K-Pop corner)

From the K-Pop perspective or the TV show corner I don’t really have many news for you.

BTS had a comeback which would be awesome but well…I don’t actually like the title song as much as the previous songs 😥 I do like the Dionysos track though. That and its performance version is amazing!!

Also, side note, don’t put “Kpop in public” as a search term in youtube…you will pretty much only get Kill This Love covers…still I have to admit the energy in the one below is awesome!

Renewals and Cancellations coming up…(TV Mania corner)

Game of Thrones is releasing new content to promote its final season and has already started airing. I’m waiting for the finale and then binge watch it but if you want to have a blast and the excitement of not spoiling it for yourself, do it like a normal person and watch it regularly (yes, I’m not a normal person regarding TV shows, if you haven’t noticed ;))

Also renewal and cancellation time is coming up guys. April and May are like the second time of the year (after the new year, new news period of series news) TV channels are releasing news about TV show renewals and cancellations. Also streaming services are giving out some news.

After 7 seasons, Arrow has been renewed for a 10 episode final 8th season. Also Supernatural is getting a final 15th season and ending after, I grew up with this show so it’s quite harsh T.T

maxresdefault

Here a very short overview of other shows:

Renewed: A Million Little Things (excited for it and happy for them, the show seems nice and I do plan on checking it out as soon as possible); The Good Doctor (I’m a 100% on board with the original Korean version but I appreciate that a successful remake has finally been made); Modern Family has been renewed for a final 11th season (never watched it, tried it, didn’t like it, sorry); Criminal Minds (gonna end o.O renewed for a final season though); God Friended Me (yes!!!); Magnum P.I. (I still didn’t get to check it out, lucky I get more time now); NCIS; Young Sheldon (for two more seasons even); The Resident (YES!); Brooklyn Nine-Nine (yay :D); Chicago Fire / Med / P.D. (Yay!); Manifest (a surprise tbh, but I like it ^.^); New Amsterdam (it’s getting more awesome by the minute); Legacies (I’m still angry with the ending of The Originals and while I did want to watch it I kind of lost interest); Dynasty (I’m enjoying this show more and more so keep going!); The Flash
Not clear yet are some of the newer shows like Single Parents, Whiskey Cavalier and The Rookie. I only watched Single Parents though and I really hope it gets another season. Also another show hanging is Bull – please don’t cancel it!!! Also MacGyver…I love that show, but no news yet…
Cancelled: Elementary (nooooo T.T); Code Black (I watched a little bit of season one but that was it); The Big Bang Theory (I do think that’s been known for some time that the finale is airing this year); The Gifted (hm…I like some parts of it but not really the whole show); Gotham (I have season one on DVD since some time ago but never watched it, tbh); Midnight, Texas (that show was kind of addicting though)

More detailed list HERE.

On a more positive note, I recently purchased Deadly Class on Amazon after they finally published it there. Still haven’t watched the last two episodes of season one but I guarantee, this show is absolutely awesome and the most binge worthy material I’ve seen in a long time!!!

dc-header1

Ending: Don’t forget Avengers: Endgame is coming! And beware the movie is 3h (and I think, 58 seconds) long and there is NO INTERMISSION. Since I hate going to the toilet while in the cinema (but it always happens, since the coke seems to go in and want to immediately come out again), my mind is like YES! My head who knows I’m gonna have to visit the restroom for sure, decided to just bring someone along who can go with me and tell me what happened while I was gone 😉

So, this is the newest #randomremarks update. I hope you liked it. I’m thinking of posting it like every two weeks or whenever there is something new coming out. Hope I can keept that up ^.^
