Review: Until We Meet Again

Oh my dear heart. If you have also watched Until We Meet Again The Series, or UWMA in short, then you will know what I mean. It was a rollercoaster ride. So many feelings, so many tears. By the end, even I’m surprised Fluke still had any tears left to cry and I actually read the novel so I knew what was coming. If you don’t know what I’m talking about, no problem, I’m here to enlighten you about the show that kept everyone afloat after our favorite TharnType ended.

Read on and find out more!

Until We Meet Again – General Information

Until We Meet Again is a 2019/20 series that aired from November 2019 to March 2020 and was originally set for 12 or 13 episodes. Because the fans loved it so much (and maybe other reasons) they actually extended it to 17 episodes. So it is actually one of the longer BL shows nowadays.
UWMA aired on LINE TV and LINE TV even released official links with English subtitles for international fans. The series is produced by Studio Wabisabi. Yes, the studio that brought us Love By Chance, a show that is not anywhere near willing to give up its top spot in BL. Studio Wabisabi also released the episodes on their YouTube channel with English subs. You can find them here: LINE TV & YouTube

The series cast includes a lot of new faces or unknown faces to the BL world with Ohm Thitiwat Ritprasert as Dean and Nine Noppakao Dechaphatthanakun as Korn, as well as actors Prem Warut Chawalitrujiwong as Team and Boun Noppanut Guntachai as Win. We got some more known faces, mainly from other Studio Wabisabi works, with Earth Katsamonnat Namwirote as Intouch. Fan favorite and more experienced actors and actresses (in leading roles) are mainly represented by Fluke Natouch Siripongthon as Pharm and the amazing Samantha Melanie Coates as Manow. Both have acted in BL as well as non BL shows before and proved to know their acting well.

The series was directed by the awesome and my favorite director New Siwaj Sawatmaneekul (Love By Chance, ReminderS, Make It Right, etc.). Seriously, I want to invite him to a party just for all the amazing shows he’s giving us.

The story and characters

UWMA starts about 30 years ago with Korn and Intouch. Both come from very different family backgrounds but fall in love and want to stay together forever. Their love is short lived when their families are against the couple and tragedy strikes. A promise Intouch and Korn made, leads to today: Pharm is a freshman in university and just starts making new friends and getting used to his new surroundings while still being haunted by scary and unnerving nightmares, when he meets the third year student Dean. Dean is captain of the swimming team and has always had the feeling he is missing something in his life. As it happens their wishes and desires seem to be fulfilled when they finally meet and get closer. But why is it that the nightmares are getting stronger and both feel like there is something they should know about their past lives?

The story does not only revolve around Pharm and Dean though. There are a lot of scenes of Pharm with his new best friends Team and Manow. I totally adore those scenes since it seems more believable then if it was just about the couples. You see Pharm tell his worries to his friends and them supporting him and sometimes teasing and pushing him to do better, like real friends do. There is also the side couple of Team and Win. I enjoyed them a lot but there has been a lot of criticism about them not really having many scenes. I agree although I think there were even less scenes in the actual novel? If I remember it right. So I guess it is okay to not mention too much…I guess…

Overall, the series keeps pretty close to the novel and tries not to cut too much out of the story line. I have no idea how they wanted to fit all of that in 13 episodes though…that’s a mystery I have not yet solved.

The acting and chemistry

Well, the acting was…good, actually. The chemistry, I have to admit, was waaaay off in the beginning. I was like “will this work?” but I kinda warmed up to everyone and everything fit well pretty soon. The chemistry between Pharm, Manow and Team was off the rocks I have to say. They really seemed like such good friends ❤

In general, there was waaaay too much crying involved for Pharm’s role but that’s kinda part of the story line and Fluke Natouch did an amazing job. Samantha Melanie Coates also did an amazing job. You could see they had some experience with acting and knew better what they had to do and how to do it. The newer actors did show some stiffness sometimes but overall they did a good job and you saw them learning over the duration of the series and becoming better every episode.

en7nnf

Fun fact: Starting from like the 10th episode, maybe even earlier, you can see when they shot the scene depending on Win’s hairline. Sometimes he has full blonde hair and suddenly it’s like half natural again…another thing though, guy…please keep your head open more often. When you opened that door, wow…I would’ve never left the room again.

The production and quality

BL shows have been getting better and better in the last few years. There are still some not so high quality shows out there and some of them are hidden gems just waiting to be discovered but LINE TV and GMMTV have set a standard for BL shows that count as the standardized and quality shows of the genre. UWMA is without a doubt one of those high quality productions. The music has the perfect timing, the colors are great, the designs and sets convincing. It all fits together to make a perfect production. There is only one criticism I have for UWMA regarding their production. They never really figured out the brightness settings for in-the-dark scenes. While watching such scenes I had to turn up my screen brightness to the highest possible setting or I wouldn’t have been able to see anything. But that’s my only criticism. The one thing most shows mess up with is the timing of the music and background sounds, UWMA did perfect with those.

Note: There is another thing I’m not happy with…P’Sin’s character…The wig… Don’t worry guys, you will know what I’m talking about when you watch the show 🙂

My personal and biased opinion

I kinda have the feeling I have to give a really personal opinion about this series somehow. I mean I always try to give my opinion but I try not to go just by my preferences but also talk about stuff that might be issues for others. Well with UWMA I have the feeling I also have to talk about my totally personal opinion about the series. First, I loved it. It’s not the best out there, definitely not. It’s not so good, you would think about it for five days and ask yourself if you are ever gonna have a show as good as that, you know the LBC and TTTS effect. At least I had that moment with both those shows. Now, UWMA might not be like that but what I think is so special about this series is that it does not have the usual “ending”.
I’m not talking about the ending of the actual series, I’m not gonna talk about that since I don’t want to spoil stuff. But I do want to talk about the fact, that the stories in the show, not all of them end well. BL shows usually have three kinds of endings: total despair, all end up happy, people disappear into nothingness.

Either everyone dies or the couple is separated and it ends in despair for everyone or it’s a total happy ending with all the leads getting what they always wanted or –and this one is sometimes part of the others– people who might not have been the “good” guys in the series disappear and are not mentioned again. In UWMA there are some revelations that bring tragedy and drama but still the story is not fully closed yet, meaning it’s still part of the story. When you know what I mean and think about it, you want to cry and I did, especially when I read the novel. The series still does a good portrayal and gives you some solace I guess. I think they did well in making the novel into a series and did the novel justice. *SPOILER AT THE END OF THE POST*

I know this is mostly me ranting but I just had to mention why I like this series as much as I do and recommend it to others.

Overall review

ja3wrm

Overall UWMA is a little bit darker and more serious than other shows. It is more a romance BL series than a comedic or fast-paced one. The pace is not as slow as it seems in the beginning but it still takes some time to get used to because you will need to turn down your excitement a little bit or you will not get half of what is happening. The series still offers all the things we want from a BL and more. I recommend watching and if you have time I also recommend reading the novel beforehand. It’s even better when you’ve read it. Of course, you can also watch it without having read the novel. Don’t worry everything will be revealed in the end!

So check out this wonderful Studio Wabisabi gem. New and the studio have once again proven they know how to make a good BL show!

I hope you liked this review. Tell me in the comments down below what you thought of the show or if you will watch it 🙂

Just so I’m clear for all those who don’t mind a *SPOILER*:
I watched the series and you always switch between Pharm and Dean in their current life and Intouch and Korn in the past and I enjoyed reading and watching but then it just kinda clicked and I could not forget everytime I watched/read In and Korn’s scenes. “They are so in love and happy. They enjoyed their life and wanted to be together. But in the end the pressure was too much and they died. Not normally but in such a tragic death too.” And so I pretty much cried my eyes out every time I saw them being happy. It was always reminder that they did not get the chance to be happy longer. I don’t know but UWMA really tug my heart strings there….I’m a crybaby.

Review: Dark Blue Kiss

NOTE: I know it is late and I haven’t been posting but seriously have you read the news? It’s only March and I feel like a whole year went by…well, let me make it up for you. I’m trying to post a little bit more in the following weeks at least…

I still remember when GMMTV released their line-up for 2019 and people were going crazy over Dark Blue Kiss. We were getting another installment for one of our favorite couples, Pete x Kao. So yes, the expectations were pretty high. And since I was an avid watcher myself, I decided to finally post a review about it.

Enjoy and share your opinion in the comments below 😊

Dark Blue Kiss – General

Dark Blue Kiss is the third installment of the Kiss series, after Kiss The Series and Kiss Me Again. Different from the others we only see the Pete x Kao couple coming back while some of the characters from previous seasons only appear in a supporting role.
The show had been highly anticipated because, let’s admit Tay and New are one of the favorite couples out there. Of course, the expectations were high, like enormously high.

The series aired between October 12th and December 28th and GMMTV actually released the episodes on YouTube and added subs about 24 to 48 hours later, so international fans could also watch it. Thank you, GMM!
Tay Tawan Vihokratana and New Thitipoom Techaapaikhun both reprised their roles as Pete and Kao respectively. Podd Suphakorn Sriphothong reprised his role as Kao’s café owner friend Sun who build a supporting couple-to-be with another known face from the previous installment, Mork, played by Fluke Gawin Caskey. Many actors from previous installments make an appearance even if just for a short time.

Like I said before the series was also released on YouTube officially and with added English subtitles so please check it out Here.

The story

One thing that is kind of unclear is when this story line takes place. Kiss Me Again, the second installment, served as a prequel and showed us how Pete and Kao got together but there are some plot lines in Kiss The Series, the first installment, that seemingly have not happened or have been forgotten. Judging from the fact that they are applying for jobs already, I guess it’s set after Kiss The Series? But honestly, I have no idea when it actually takes place.

While Kiss Me Again had Pete and Kao figuring out how to fit into the world around them and maybe telling their friends the truth, Kiss Me Again was about their beginnings and how they got so close and when they started going out. Dark Blue Kiss is when they are already together and have to figure out how to tell their families about each other while also discovering what they want to do in the future.

jkkwof

Like other shows this show also has another side couple, Sun and Mork. Sun is the owner of his self started café and lives with his younger brother, Rain. Whenever Rain gets in trouble, his best friend Mork seems to be around and the origin of all bad things happening. Of course, Sun isn’t Mork’s biggest fan. Still he doesn’t want to give up on the guy. One thing leads to another and suddenly Mork is working in Sun’s café. And before they know it their feelings seem to change into…well, into what?

Surprise from unexpected sources

Okay, so let’s start with the bad things first, this time. DBK had such high expectations but the story line of Pete and Kao did not really deliver on it. Sure, there were a few scenes and episodes where they were delightful and as perfect as you can imagine, but out of all 12 episodes you could have told their story of DBK in 3 instead of so many. Why I’m saying this? Because for the first episodes, the same problems seemed to be coming up again and again and to be honest, no one is a fan of insecure feelings for such a long time. For the fans it was clear both of them were in love and had been together for some time…why did they sometimes behave like they had known each other for about a month? Why so much distrust? I can say it was nice to see them develop and near the end the story picked up and finally decided to go somewhere.
You could see Kao and Pete learn and find out more about each other and their own feelings. So as long as they learn how important honest conversation is in a relationship, I guess they will be fine?

0bj2yf

The biggest surprise of the show came from our side couple though. Sun and Mork convinced with their romantic tension and obvious dislike turned like. They didn’t just fall in love with each other but like Pete and Kao faced obstacles but they overcame them and learned from them and especially learned the meaning of forgiveness. Even if you are angry at your partner or the person you are flirting with, you should know nobody is perfect and sometimes misunderstandings can happen. Sun and Mork showed us scenes full of tension, comedy and cuteness and I’m not surprised they turned to be one of the fan favorites of 2019.

The cast and the acting

Hm, how do I say this…I am a big fan of Tay Tawan and New Thitipoom and they were good actors even before DBK. To be honest the only thing that really surprised me from the acting was when Pete finally had enough of Kao and both of them suffered from it. That was some amazing acting right there. Especially from New because we had not seen stuff like that from him before. Otherwise though, there weren’t really that many special scenes in the series.

For the rest of the cast…there was some chemistry doubts between Sun and Mork / Podd and Fluke in the beginning but those flew out the window soon and they fully convinced in their roles. The other actors also showed their best. I do have some pity for AJ Chayapol Jutamat though, since he got a lot of hate for the role of Non, since, let’s be honest, Non was a jerk. Still he also convinced as his character.

e125bf9cb77eb68db513b3927979b71d7cdefd53r1-2048-996v2_hq

Overall the cast did a good job but the story line only offered like 2 or 3 scenes where the actors could really prove what they could do. In that regard it is very different from shows like Theory of Love, where Off and Gun had to pull out all of their talent because there were a lot of scenes involved you just had to nail and show some serious and breathtaking acting. DBK, like I said, doesn’t have that much in that regard (side note: and I don’t actually like ToL).

Overall

Okay, now overall…DBK is a nice and beautiful series. It has the production quality you want and also the chemistry you want. The show will not throw you off you chair but it will keep you watching and enthralled and you want to know what happens at the end. It just isn’t as extraordinary as other shows.

Also one thing to say to GMM: Please try not to fall into the same trap as many other production companies. Except for Love Sick, I have not yet seen a couple that has survived their second installment well (since they were just one part of the story in the previous seasons I take it as this is Pete and Kao’s second installment). Since you do so well with all the BL shows, I still put hope in you, GMM! 🙂

In the end, I still recommend watching DBK even if it takes some time for the story to really start and the pace is a mess but overall it is nice to watch and the chemistry is wonderful ❤

Note: DBK did give me a new breathtakingly beautiful scene. You can actually see it as the title pic of the site. That scene alone is worth dealing with a few bad things and still finishing the series 🙂

BL recommendations 2020

I know it is already the beginning of January but tbh like this it’s better than when I post it in fall 2019, since a lot of shows are not set by then yet – most of the release dates are not even out now, so yeah…read on and find out what is coming in 2020 for all the BL fans out there.

Note: It’s already quite hard keeping up with all the shows coming out, so I’m only mentioning TV series here and skipping the movies. Sorry. I have a job.

ENDING IN 2020

TharnType

One of the biggest BL shows in 2019 and definitely the front runner in discussion in 2019, was TharnType. The production value, the chemistry, the acting…a lot of this series is top notch. It had kind of a controversial edge at the beginning but turned out quite well and when this post is released we will already have the finale on our hands but still I wanted to include it here. Tharn and Type kept turning our exhausting Mondays into the favorite day of the week and I’m definitely hoping for a second season! To support this, please watch it on the official LINE links, they even released it with English subtitles and for international fans HERE.
Side note: I will definitely write a review on TT.

Until We Meet Again The Series

Another show ending in 2020 is Until We Meet Again The Series. It started of slow and I still think the series is like 20 times better if you have read the novel (which I actually did) but otherwise there are also a lot of non-novel fans out there who appreciate our cute romance series. Different from TT, UWMA does have more than one episode left for 2020 and I’m curious what the next episodes look like ^.^ This definitely is a series that keeps getting better and better. Do not be fooled by the apparently slow story-telling. In that regard it has a lot in common with Love By Chance. It seems slow while there’s actually a lot of stuff happening. It’s from the same studio, so no surprise there 😀 You can watch it on the official Youtube channel with English subtitles HERE.
Side note: Also another review coming after the show ends. Definitely.

Hotel Stars The Series

I’m not actually sure if this show is ending in January of if it already ended in December. It has 10 episodes in total and I haven’t watched it til now, so I cannot really tell you anything about it. You can find some info about it HERE.

COMING UP 2020
These shows have been announced for 2020, they already shot some scenes if not the whole series, maybe there’s already a release date or trailer out. These shows are quite sure to come in 2020.

Why R U? The Series

Why R U The Series was kind of happening in the background until suddenly it wasn’t. I had heard the name and that they were doing some auditions and suddenly we got more casting news and a teaser and ever since then we have been getting more and more behind the scenes and music content. So this one is pretty much set in stone to come in 2020. The release date is January 17th and I really hope they are either releasing it on Youtube or on LINE TV so international fans can watch it. Considering the teaser had already English subtitles included, I hold high hopes.
The story includes multiple BL couples with at least one recognizable actor, Saint Suppapong Udomkaewkanjana (Pete in Love By Chance), but the other cast is really cute and likable too, so I’m curious. The story seems to revolve around a bunch of college students who don’t really know or like each other suddenly starting to get closer and develop some bond. Sounds boring but the production and chemistry seems to be good enough to liven up the story and make it interesting. Find the teaser HERE.

Love By Chance Season 2

Another big news announcement was the release of Love By Chance Season 2. The story is set at the same college and with mostly the same actors. Only exception being Saint (see above) whose character Pete is studying abroad for some time (the same as in the novel, as far as I know). In reality it was more of a scheduling conflict though, but maybe if season 2 does well we will get a third season with all the couples complete. So this time it is mainly about the Tin x Can couple everyone fell in love with. I am curious about it but I also have to admit, I loved the dynamics between Ae and Pete the most, so I’m not expecting to much. I always look forward to being pleasantly surprised though, so I’ll definitely watch it. You can find the trailer on Youtube with English subs. Find more information HERE.

A Tale Of Thousand Stars

So now, let’s start with the 2020 GMMTV line up. In October, GMMTV made every BL fan’s heart beat faster when they released their 2020 line up and it included multiple BL series. Starting it off on my list here is A Tale Of Thousand Stars. It stars some unknown faces for the BL world, like Mix Sahaphap Wongratch as lead character Tian, and some faces we already know and love, namely Earth Pirapat Watthanasetsiri (Aun/Un in Theory of Love).
The story revolves around Tian, who got a heart transplant from a volunteer teacher after she died in a tragic accident. Wishing to fulfill her promise to a military officer she fell in love with, he goes the same path as her and meets the officer in a war-ridden country. While still on the edge about each other in the beginning, they slowly start growing closer.
I am definitely watching this one, even if the story line sounds like a set-up for a sad ending. I believe in GMMTV though to give us an ending fitting the series and making us happy and not cry for multiple days in a row (yes, I’m looking at you HIStory3: Make Our Days Count – it was amazing, but it destroyed me). I’m definitely curious to see Earth in another lead role!

Check out the trailer HERE.

The Shipper

The second series in the GMMTV’s 2020 line-up is The Shipper. Let me be honest now. I do not think this is gonna be a BL series at all. I do think it’s gonna include some BL scenes but mostly it’s a teaser I think and there won’t be much else. But I’m happy to be wrong about that one.

The cast includes mostly recognizable faces, starting with Ohm Pawat Chittsawangdee (Thun in He’s Coming To Me), Prigkhing Sureeyaret Yakaret who has been starring as a support or guest role in some other shows and First Kanaphan Puitrakul (Jim Bae in Blacklist) who is starring in his first kind of BL series, I think.
The story revolves around a BL fan girl who one day drives home with one of the boys from her fantasies, Kim, and they end up in a traffic accident. When she wakes up she switched souls with Kim and starts to live as him and maybe even fulfill some fantasies of her. But not everyone is oblivious to the sudden change in behavior of Kim, starting with his own brother.
If you have problems knowing who to ship, well…the series is called The Shipper and this series could either end with 1 or with I don’t know how many couples. There are so many possibilities. But it seems like an upbeat and nicely produced series, so I will check it out and decide then. Check out the trailer HERE.

2Gether The Series

A total surprise for 2020 is 2Gether. This show seems different from the usual GMMTV BL, mainly because it stars some pretty unknown BL faces as the leads and the two main leads are both portrayed as tough characters and not giving in to easily.
The main character, Tine, wants to get rid of a male fan of his and decides to get a fake boyfriend – another college student named Sarawat. After the latter declines multiple times, he finally gives in and they start to pretend date. Though soon jealousy and real feelings start to develop.
It stars multiple side couples and supporting actors with known faces from shows like Theory of Love, Dark Blue Kiss, ‘Cause You’re My Boy and Water Boyy The Series. I will definitely check it out because this could be different from the normal shows and as long as they produced it well and the chemistry is there, this could be a total gem. I’m curious! Check out the trailer HERE.

Friend Zone 2: Dangerous Area

And finally the last segment for the GMMTV line-up we know about, Friend Zone 2: Dangerous Area. It is the second season and to be honest, I’ve only skipped through the first one, so I don’t really know what it is about but it does feature A LOT of known faces. And I mean a lot – if the capital letters on the words haven’t already told you. The trailer is quite fast and action packed and does actually make me quite interested in the show, so maybe until it airs, I’ll check out the first season after all.
Check out the trailer HERE. Also not, that this series is not just BL but features multiple couples and multiple orientations.

En of Love

This one was originally announced for 2019 but has now been delayed to 2020. Some may think of this as some sign of “maybe” it will air but I still decided to include it under “pretty sure” since the whole cast has been determined and there are behind the scenes photos, so I guess even if it comes out around the end of 2020, it would surprise me if it wasn’t coming this year.
The story sound quite bland: It tells the story of multiple engineering and medical students and their romantic relationships. Well, depending on whether the characters are interesting and have good chemistry, this could turn out pretty good. Find out more HERE.

My Engineer The Series

This show has been announced since when? I think it started around SOTUS times and has been teased ever since then. Well, 2019 we finally got more news and some updates about it. Considering the trailer released in November, I guess it is pretty much set in stone it is coming to us. I really hope there will be no problems and we will get it in 2020. There is no specific release date yet but I’m keeping my eyes peeled for it.
As for the actors, I only recognized Cooper Patpasit Na Songkhla (Golf in My Bromance The Series) but everyone else seem interesting and the acting seems stable and somewhat experienced as far as I can judge from the trailer.
The story features multiple couples, or future couples to be exact. It is set in college and the character design seems pretty interesting…also, why so many animals???? Watch the trailer HERE to find out what I mean XD

2 Moons 3: The Series

So while there haven’t been many photos or videos or anything else for this third or second, depending on how you count them, season but it has been announced by the production team and the actors multiple times and they did say it’s gonna air in 2020, so I’m gonna include it in this part of the list, after all. I am one of those fans who watched the original 2 Moons but wasn’t really against the new cast I guess and when it finally aired I fell in love with them, so I cannot wait for the new season, especially because the team behind it was so nice to release all the episodes with English subtitles. 100 points for them!

MAYBE, MAYBE, MAYBE
These may have been announced for 2019 but because of some changes it didn’t come out. There are set photos or some other kind of proof something is happening though. So maybe we’ll get them in 2020.

Gen Y The Series

So this series totally flew by me, like totally. I only noticed it when I did some research for this post. Yes, I have to do research and I don’t know every BL show coming in 2020 by heart…well, maybe after this post I do XD
So, they already released somewhat of a trailer so I guess it is not totally open whether it’s coming or not but compared to other shows it’s been on the down low.
Apparently it stars some known faces, especially from 2 Moons The Series (first season. No I didn’t forgot the second “2”). Though considering I cannot see them in the trailer, I guess they are keeping them hidden for now. Or maybe I just didn’t really look close enough. I don’t really know. I only watched the trailer while writing this, so I only glanced at it.
I do think it features a lot of new faces, so I don’t expect much from the acting though. The production looks legit and good though, so let’s see what and especially when we will get the series 😉 HERE is the teaser.

My Ride, I Love You / My Ride The Series

So, first off, I have not idea what this series is called EXACTLY. Either the first one or the second one. But other than the title it seems at least the cast is pretty set on this one.
This series features a lot of actors who have been acting in other works before, some of them have even been nominated at some awards, namely Fame Chawinroj Likitchareonsakul (Guide in My Dream: The Series), so yes, I expect a lot from the acting in this one. We have not behind the scenes yet, I think because they haven’t actually started shooting the series yet but maybe we will get the series around fall or the end of the year? It looks pretty promising though and I haven’t heard any trouble yet, so as long as everything goes smoothly we get another BL series later on.
Also Mild Suttinut Uengtrakul (Techno in TharnType) is acting as a support role. I just think he is so adorable.

My Bromance 2: The Series / 5 Years Later

Haaaa…another series that has been teased for years now. I mean I actually think it has been teased since 2018 but we haven’t heard much.
So to clear some stuff up…no, actually it might confuse you more: There has been a movie called My Bromance (2014) and a standalone/remake TV series My Bromance The Series (2016) featuring new cast and actually telling a story set after the movie plot. Then they originally named the new thing My Bromance 2: 5 Years Later and it was announced it would feature Fluke Natouch Siripongthon (Pharm in Until We Meet Again The Series). Since he only acted in the movie and not the TV series it was clear we would get a continuation of the movie. Since they are renaming it and there have been multiple news articles, it’s not really clear any more if it will be a continuation of the movie or whether we get some things from the TV series too. So yes, everyone is confused. Also we don’t really know whether this will be a series or like a mini-series/special.
There have been some more recent news especially because it has been pretty much confirmed Fluke was gonna reprise his role as Bank. Since he is currently starring in UWMA, the shooting for My Bromance 2 has been delayed. Considering this, I guess we can expect My Bromance 2 either at the end of the year or maybe next year, I guess.

IN THE DISTANT FUTURE
No idea if they are coming in 2020 or not. Some have been announced for 2019 and now 2020, so who knows when they will come out. Not much known about these shows.

HIStory2: Boundary Crossing 2

o5xkyf

The HIStory franchise, if I can call it that, has been going quite strong for some time now. Most recently HIStory3: Make Our Days Count where we all cried our eyes out. They gave everyone a big and joyful surprise when they announced there would actually for the first time ever be a continuation for one of their story arcs. Boundary Crossing has been one of their most loved arcs and at first they announced a series, apparently now it turned into a movie? I don’t know and that is why it is still featured on this list.
The reason why it is still unclear when it is coming, mainly because there haven’t been many updates on this one. We know it’s coming somewhen in the future but apparently the producers are still discussing the script so we might only get it in 2021 or later. Check out the first season if you want to know what it is about and how great the series is!

Fhalanrak

There is only one reason I’m even mentioning this here: New Siwaj Sawatmaneekul. The beloved-by-BL-fans director behind master works like Make It Right, Love By Chance and most recently Until We Meet Again. He is also the director for this one.
Other than that, there is pretty much no information released on this one.

Heart by Heart

There’s been some casting news and some rough updates on the story but there’s no real news yet. Usually that means there won’t be any releases until 2021 at least but let’s keep hoping.

Another series where I’m quite sure, I’ve been featuring it in the previous recommendations 2019 post? Well, in October we got a teaser and it seems they have actually been shooting some scenes, so I guess we might finally see a release of the series in 2020.
The story is quite simple but sweet about two boys who meet and meet and meet and soon cannot imagine separating. The trailer though, seems more dramatic, so I don’t know what to believe now. I do hope it’s coming in 2020! Check out the trailer HERE.

Your Voice, My Heart

Since we are on the subject of shows I have mentioned on recommendations 2019, this is another one. I don’t know why it takes so long to release it but apparently there has been some kind of issue and no idea whether it will be released or not.
The story seems quite unusual for a BL but that’s what makes it so interesting for everyone I guess. Oh and this one is not Thai, keke. I really hope they can resolve all the issues and release it in 2020.

WHO KNOWS??

Motor-Cycle The Series, That’s My Umbrella, In My Mind, Your Star, Puppy Love

So that’s it for BL recommendations 2020. Maybe you will notice that most of these are from Thailand. This time that isn’t actually on purpose. We all know the ban going on in China and tbh I doubt we will get another master piece like The Untamed. Or let me say it like this: I wouldn’t even know where to get the info for that. Taiwan normally has the HIStory series going on but even they have only announced the second installment for Boundary Crossing so other than that we don’t have any news there. And as for Japan, we will get some movies but otherwise it looks quite blank. So we end up having mostly Thai shows on this list, sorry. If you know of any others, please comment down below so I can add it to the list, so we can all keep up to date ^.^ …wow, is this post long…so much scrolling…

Review: TharnType

Soooo, one of the highest praised and most discussed shows of 2019 just aired its finale on January 6th and left all us fans hoping for a continuation and more of this amazing acting and lovely chemistry.

Don’t worry I’m not here today to just praise the series. I do have some things to complain about, although I can already tell, there aren’t many.

TharnType – General Information

TharnType is a 12 episodes Thai series that started airing in October 2019 and took a two week break over the Christmas holidays just to make everyone wait for its finale on January 6th.

The story is set in the same universe as the highly popular series Love By Chance. It is produced by a different team though and stars totally different actors except for a few guest appearances.

TT is about Type, a college student, who starts sharing a room with the music student Tharn and they hit it off really well. Because of a trauma from childhood Type has sworn to hate everything gay for lifetime. So what happens when he finds out that his seemingly perfect roommate is gay?

The story and character development

The story in general is nothing new. It’s about someone’s hate turning into love and them having to face some obstacles. TT does not shine because of its extraordinary story, it doesn’t. It does shine quite a little bit because of its story development though.

The guys didn’t just meet and dislike each other in the first second but had a good time until Type found out about Tharn liking other guys. That’s when the complications started. The characters make a lot of mistakes in the beginning. Like really big ones. That was one of the reasons the series was kind of disliked in the beginning but soon they turned it around because TT is not just a story to enjoy some eye candy but the mistakes are there for a reason. You see the characters learn and start doing better. You see them  start understanding each other and try to learn more about their roommate. You can see the story shape the protagonists and make them into better people.

The character development in this show is definitely noticeable and a big plot point and I really appreciated the change from other shows where it’s sometimes shown that love conquers all. In TT both parties had to learn to change as well as accept each other’s faults to stay together. In that regards it’s a lot more like real life than just the unconditional and never ending love we see and love from other shows.

The chemistry of Mew & Gulf

The main leads are played by Mew Suppasit Jongcheveevat (What The Duck) as Tharn and Gulf Kanawut Traipipattanapong as Type. Mew already has some experience acting in a BL role while Gulf is quite new to the whole genre.

maxresdefault

The chemistry between the leads but also the rest of the cast is absolutely superb. I mean the leads fit oh-so-well together and maybe it is because they are close friends (at least that’s what it seems like) in real life you see that they mean a lot to each other in every single one of their glances and stares.

One thing I appreciated in this couple: while Tharn was originally the stronger and more grown-up part of the couple, around the end you could see how much he trusted and loved Type. He let go and showed his weak and more child-like side to him too. Also you see Type realize when he has to be the strong one and protect his man and its not just the other way around. I mean I don’t have anything against the usual Ae-Pete situation going on but I just appreciated a tough couple like this one too ^.^

The acting and production

One thing you just have to comment on when watching this show, the quality. The production quality (props, set, background music, lighting, etc.) is amazing. I don’t remember anything being out of place or being anywhere near lazy production. The lighting and colors are beautiful. Light and beautiful scenes are held in bright and warm colors while harsh and heart wrenching scenes are done in dark and cold colors. It sets an atmosphere. I mean just see how they decided to slow down the intro song for the last episode since the story line wasn’t as happy as the original song at the moment. It fit the atmosphere of the things happening.

The chemistry and the production quality are definitely great and no, I do not have any bad points to comment on here. I tried to find some bad points but I just couldn’t.

So, now about the acting. Together with Mew with have not many known faces returning. Mostly Mild Suttinut Uengtrakul (Love’s Coming) and a few other faces who have appeared in like one other show or are set to appear in another series. Still the acting was quite exceptional. Everyone convinced in their role and showed their character really well. There were some scenes where I was kind of thrown off sometimes but those scenes came from side characters rather than the leads or their main circle of friends. Big compliments on the casting and the acting. You could see everyone was doing their best.

Is there anything bad about this series?

Okay, now let’s go to the more negative part. What about this series wasn’t done so well. First off, I just wanna complain about the two week break during Christmas…why did you leave us hanging for two weeks. And no, I won’t count the special they released inbetween. That was just a try to get us to feel bad for the bad guy which did not work at all for me.

But no, let’s get real. There is a reason the discussion got heated after the first few episodes. There are a few edgy scenes (and I don’t mean edgy in a good way). If I see it how they explained it, as faulty characters who have to learn how to become better people, sure, then I can take it. But on the other hand, it was kind of controversial considering Type had a trauma from childhood and while Tharn did not know about it, he just did something without the other guy knowing. It’s not perfect but it kinda fits the story and their explanation does actually make sense. They did not included a forced skinship scene for the heck of it but to make a point that some things are okay but sometimes you should know the whole story before making a judgement.

Another issue I wanted to point out: Sometimes there were really slow scenes. Those scenes would’ve sometimes been better if they had been cut in half so someone wasn’t staring at the ground and thinking about an answer for such. a . long. time. It did get exhausting sometimes.

Overall Review

Overall, TharnType proved the winner of 2019’s BL shows and there have been quite a few contenders. But even if there was a lot of doubt in the beginning, they series came back strong and showed everyone how a series and a fitting (season!!) ending are made. Yes, I’m hoping for another season. No, I’m not being subtle about it.

rrjbvf

Also, as a side note, I really appreciated the short guest appearance by Saint, Mark and Mean in the middle and the end of the series. Okay, I admit, I mostly grinned at Saint because I missed his character Pete so much.

After doing some research I also realized that I should’ve never doubted the story behind TT. I mean the screenwriter is the same as the one for Love Sick and the author of the novel is just a wonderful creative mind, so there you have it.

What did you think about the series? Did you enjoy watching? Will you check it out?

BL Thailand – Who To Know?

Some time ago I released a series of BL introductions and BL 101 if you’re new to the genre. I also included a Who To Know? then but I decided to make a new one, just because so many things have changed. 2019 was a great year for BL shows even if we had to wait a lot and there were some down phases. Overall it was a good year with many new shows, many surprises and one or the other gem down the line.

In this post I want to give you an updated version of who to know in the BL acting world, specifically Thailand because that is the one country where you see some actors return either for main roles or at least for supporting roles in other shows. Also because it is the one country with the most BL shows I know, so I decided to go with what I do know.

So here are some of the actors you should know and recognize when delving into the world of BL…enjoy…

Singto Prachaya Ruangroj (He’s Coming To Me)

singto3

Born: 1994
Let’s start off with a name you should really know. He has been on the acting radar ever since he acted in the highly popular SOTUS series alongside co-star and friend Krist Sangpotirat Perawat and has been on the up-and-coming ever since. He has acted in multiple other shows including the U-Prince Series, Friend Zone and the touching series He’s Coming To Me alongside Ohm Pawat. In 2020 he will return with the non-BL show Turn Left Turn Right as well as in the second installment of Friend Zone, Friend Zone 2: Dangerous Area, both GMM shows. He has proven multiple times he can act well and can play different characters, especially with his character in He’s Coming To Me, he showed he can play the shy but playful character too and can adapt to his surroundings and co-stars. Definitely a name to be curious about in the future, especially because he didn’t seem to be against playing a BL character after SOTUS and is one of the few actors who played LGBT+ characters in more than one series. We fans definitely thank him for it because he really is one talented actor.

Mild Suttinut Uengtrakul (Love’s Coming)

mild

Born: 1993
You may not have known his name but you might have seen his face multiple times. He has appeared in some shows either as a main character or a supporting role. He has been part of the main couple in the charming Love’s Coming, as well as the kinda confusing The Best Twins. You may have also seen him in the movie Red Wine in the Dark Night, the messy series What the Duck and at the moment he is starring as Techno in TharnType The Series. He is one of the examples of seeing an actor develop. While in the beginning his acting seemed awkward and strange, he has really changed and learned over time and shows some good acting scenes in TT. I am very curious where his journey takes him in the future.

Mew Suppasit Jongcheveevat (What the Duck)

mew1.jpg

Born: 1991
This actor has some scandals, issues and whatever behind him but I still want to mention him here. First because he seems to be really good at adapting to different characters and also because he was connected to the messy and confusing What The Duck. Seriously, even until now, I don’t get the series. But since he acted in that show, I decided to give him another chance with the new TharnType The Series. And while the show is quite on the edge regarding some of their content, this actor definitely delivers a steady and balanced acting job. Before it was hard to judge whether his acting made Pree in WTD awkward or whether it was the character itself. Well, TT proves it was the character itself (actually no real surprise there, the show is a full on crash against the wall) and I definitely hope Mew will continue delighting us with shows.

New Thitipoom Techaapaikhun (Kiss Series)

new3.jpg

Born: 1993
If you don’t know New, you are either totally new to the BL genre or you are just clueless, like totally. I count New Thitipoom as one of the three actors with the most BL shows on his record. The other two being Singto Prachaya (SOTUS, Friend Zone, He’s Coming To Me) and Gun Atthaphan (Puppy Honey, Theory of Love, The Blue Hour, and so on…). New has acted as Apo in Water Boyy The Series as well as Kao in the long running series Kiss, a series that is currently airing its third and highly anticipated installment, Dark Blue Kiss. But his roles also include a lot of non-BL roles, like as Singto Prachaya’s best friend in SOTUS, M. He was also part of multiple installments of the U-Prince series and had a main role in the 2019 shows Wolf and Love Beyond Frontier. Seriously, his acting record is quite long and it seems we will get to see more of him in the future. He has developed his acting and proven time and time again he knows how to do a scene well. I cannot wait to see more of this cutie and see where his future is leading him 🙂

Tay Tawan Vihokratana (Kiss Series)

tay3.jpg

Born: 1991
New’s longtime co-actor and another GMM TV boy. Tay Tawan is another name you should definitely know. His acting record is pretty long too. He has acted as Pete in the long running series Kiss, a series that – as I mentioned above – is currently airing its third and highly anticipated installment, Dark Blue Kiss. He has also appeared as a supporting role in more shows I can count, and had a main role in Secret Seven and the 2019 drama series 3 Will Be Free. In 2020 he will have a supporting role in the GMM TV series Military of Love. Tay Tawan is steadily building his acting record with the one or the other BL show or character and I appreciate that he seems to be open to play more complex and complicated characters. I’m looking forward to seeing more of this great and charming guy in the future!

Saint Suppapong Udomkaewkanjana (Love By Chance)

saint3.jpg

Born: 1998
Saint first came onto everyone’s radar with the highly popular and fanatically loved BL series Love By Chance. Even I have re-watched the series more times than I can count. In his more recent acting projects he has taken on roles different from the shy and quiet character Pete from LBC. Currently he set to act as Tutor in the 2020 BL series Why R U?, a series I’m looking forward to dearly. Different from a lot of actors on this list, he has almost only been acting in shows and no big movie projects. He did do some short movies/music videos that can be found on Youtube but otherwise he has taken to shows on television. I’m really curious what is coming for this young boy in the future, especially since he is only 21 this year, so we will see how he builds up his acting record and repertoire. He has already proven he can play tougher characters too. I hope after 2020 he will appear in more BL shows too and not leave the BL world behind him like some others did after some time.

Earth Pirapat Watthanasetsiri (Water Boyy The Series)

earth

Born: 1994
Funny enough, Earth is one of the actors most BL fans know the name and the face of. Mainly because he seems to appear everywhere. He had a main role in Water Boyy The Series and the second installment of the Kiss series – Kiss Me Again, as well as a supporting role in the popular shows Love By Chance and Theory of Love. Let me translate – he acted with New and Tay from the Kiss series, also with New in Water Boyy, he appeared with Saint, Perth, Mean and Plan in Love By Chance and also Off and Gun in Theory of Love. Whoever you are a fan of, at least one of their shows had Earth in them. No wonder why most fans know his face and name. 2019 and 2020 also showed he seemed to be open to playing LGBT+ characters, something I highly praise him for. He appeared as part of the surprise fan-favorite couple TwoUn in Theory of Love, with his co-star White Nawat Phumphothingam (Love Sick) and is set to appear in the BL series A Tale Of Thousand Stars in 2020. It seems like a dramatic but wonderful love story, so I am excited for it. I’m excitedly asking myself where he will pop up in the future.

Off Jumpol Adulkittiporn (Theory Of Love)

off4.jpg

Born: 1991
Another 91-liner, the oldest age group on this list. Off has been on the radar of BL fans ever since his role in Senior Secret Love: Puppy Honey. He played the cold but caring Pick and was first paired with his now long-time co-star and friend Gun Atthaphan. They have shown multiple times they have perfect chemistry and GMMTV has given them even their own shows like the talk show OffGun Fun Night (which is currently airing season 2) and the BL series Theory Of Love, where we could finally see Off and Gun as a drama couple again. In Theory Of Love, Off could finally show his matured and complex acting which didn’t really show in Puppy Honey. Even if TOL is a story full of bad timing and even worse decisions, the series is definitely one of the BL shows with the best acting. I really hope Off takes on more complex characters in the future, he has already appeared in a lot of non-BL shows too, and I’m excited to see how his acting develops to even better levels.

Gun Atthaphan Phunsawat (Theory Of Love)

gun7.jpg

Born: 1993
There is a reason why people call Gun Atthaphan the king – or sometimes queen – of BL. First, he is 26 years old in 2019 and still has a baby face. Second, I don’t think anyone has acted as a LGBT+ character as many times as him: Senior Secret Love: Puppy Honey, Bittersweet Chocolate (and it’s second installment), Love Love You, The Blue Hour and Theory Of Love. And he pulls all of the roles off perfectly. Gun has shown steady and good acting from the beginning and has been known for taking on more complex roles and characters. He played tough bad asses, as well as cute and shy guys. He also appeared in non-BL roles, most known, he appeared as the straight A’s student Punn in the drama heavy and fan-favorite series The Gifted. In 2020 he is returning as Punn for the second installment The Gifted Graduation. I’m curious what projects he is going to do in the future but judging from his current acting I’m quite sure, he is the one actor I trust to pull of any role given to him.

Earth Katsamonnat Namwirote (Love By Chance)

earth2.jpg

Born: 1996
This is quite a new name on this list. His acting record isn’t that long right now but I expect more in the future. He had a main role in the popular series Love By Chance and is set to appear in the dramatic BL series Until We Meet Again in 2019. He is definitely part of the cutie line on this list and seems to be really good at adapting to his co-stars and giving good chemistry. I’m excited to see him in UWMA and curious how his acting developed since his last project. I think we can expect more from him in the future, especially since he doesn’t seem to shy away from playing LGBT+ characters.

Fluke Natouch Siripongthon (Red Wine In The Dark Night)

fluke.jpg

Born: 1996
Fluke Natouch is one of the few actors who has acted in as many movies as TV shows, although it seems his movie roles have been bigger than the TV roles he got. He appeared in the widely known movie My Bromance, where we still don’t know when the second installment is going to come out, also in the dark and moody movie Red Wine In The Dark Night and in the movie Ghost Ship. I still have no idea whether that movie is a comedy or a scary movie…it is a change from what I’ve been watching til now and Fluke definitely pulled of the role of Yorla in the movie. I really like him in the movie especially because the role was so different than what you might know from him usually. As for shows, he appeared as a main role in Part Of Love, had a few supporting roles and is set to appear as a supporting role in the 2019 non-BL show Blacklist, as well as the main character in the 2019 BL series Until We Meet Again. He has yet to appear in a highly popular BL series but I think UWMA has good chances and he is also one of the few actors where I don’t worry about his acting skills at all. He has proven himself multiple times and he can definitely pull of fun but also serious characters.

Ohm Pawat Chittsawangdee (He’s Coming To Me)

ohm-singto-02b.jpg

Born: 2000
Say hello to the youngest actor on this list. He may be the youngest but his acting record is…well, long, especially considering he is only 19! He made his debut into the BL world with Make It Right and as part of the fan-favorite couple FrameBook. Ever since then he has a appeared in non-BL shows like War of High School but also reprised his role as Frame in Make It Right 2. In 2019 he also surprised everyone with the BL tearjerker He’s Coming To Me alongside Singto Prachaya and giving us a couple we didn’t know we wanted but we loved them nonetheless – seriously their chemistry was awesome. Currently he is starring in the series Blacklist and set to appear as a main role in the 2020 shows The Shipper and Military Of Love. He is definitely on the up-and-coming and considering he is so young, I think we can expect to see even more and even better projects in the future.

Special Mention:

Yacht Surat Permpoonsavat

yacht

Born: 1997
He is the only one on this list, I think, who has not been a main character in a BL series. He has mostly been set as supporting and guest character but he has appeared in the widely known Love By Chance. Also pretty recently he acted in The Effect. And after watching I have to say, both times he has acted as the best friend you could ever wish for in life. I mean seriously, you just have to love him. He has not appeared in many shows and has not been a main character that is why I’ve only mentioned him on the side but I just wanted to get it out there, that his characters are really the best friends you could ever ask for. And his acting is also really natural, maybe because it’s similar to himself or because he is an amazing actor. Whether it is one or the other, I wholeheartedly compliment him and hope we see more of him in the future.

So this is my list of Who To Know and who to look out for. I hope you liked it. I tried to add actors who appeared in multiple shows whether as a main or as a supporting character. Let’s see how they will surprise us in the future, I hope we see more of them whether it’s BL shows or not! (although I’d appreciate the one or the other BL show 🙂 )
