BL recommendations / Asia. Part IV

Also, check out the other parts

Since a lot of people seem to like the recommendations and I still have some left – I’m one of the sad beings that can read a list of BL recommendations and be like “yea, I watched all that…what now?” – I decided to make another post like this. I’m actually writing this shortly after releasing part III but I’m still not sure what I actually wanna recommend since I don’t wanna recommend stupid or bad stuff. I mostly recommend good ones, popular ones or also ones that left a positive impression.

Well, I’m gonna try my best. Let’s go!

As a reminder: Criteria

  • this time again – no sad endings here
  • Asian, duh
  • BL, duh
  • some kinda chemistry because otherwise I’d drop it immediately.
  • Movies or series

I’m gonna start with something small and maybe work my way up – or rather down – the list to the better ones…doesn’t mean you can’t watch the top ones but just, if you think “oh I watched this, why’s she recommending that?”

Prince’s Prince

PP is like “The Boy Next Door” from the previous recommendations list, except for the part where it leaves you hanging quite a bit. I mean, I didn’t really expect much of it anyway, since a Korean idol plays one of the main roles and when have you seen an idol do something so drastic as to participate in an actual BL project? Well, Prince’s Prince is still nice to watch and quite a laugh, just don’t expect to get “real” BL but soooo many indications….

Love’s Coming / Love Love You

Love’s Coming was a big hit and while I loved the actors and the whole storyline I was one of the few people who were not angry or sad about the fact that the changed one of the main leads for part 2 of the movie “Love Love You”. So first things first, here you have one movie about people getting together and then the continuation when they are already a couple. When I watched the first one I was like “Weeeell…I don’t know how this is gonna turn out” but it turned out that the chemistry between the leads is good and the storyline goes a little bit deeper the longer you watch.

Love Love You has a lot of similarities in that regard – genius, it’s the second installment – In the beginning the movie builds on comedy and fun and you can already guess some drama but don’t really get it yet, and then…well, then the throw some real dramatic scenes at you. Both movies are great at being superficial most of the time but giving you real deep scenes from time to time, that makes you love them. I enjoyed them very much, just except so much cheesiness! Seriously, I cringed at some scenes so hard….

Irresistible Love I & II (or Uncontrolled Love)

This one…this one…I discovered it per chance and totally fell in love with it. Here a fair warning without actually giving a spoiler – there IS a sad ending AND a happy ending. I’ve heard often that the sad ending is kinde…well, not that great – I wouldn’t know, I skipped out on that one =3 Problem here was the fact that when you skip the sad ending, you also miss some storyline for the good ending. It’s like the series My Bromance where – if you want some background knowledge to the show – you can watch the movie (that had a saaaaad ending) and then you get to know what exactly they changed about the ending to make the series…ok, that was way too complicated.

Just take it as – you can choose what ending to watch! I loved the acting in the show and I cannot remember how good the chemistry was but I think it was nice. To not expect too much hands-on action though. You’ll only get a spoiled brat, a masochistic sweetheart and a really interesting story in 2 movies.

Like Love I & II

On some sites people talk about Like Love like it’s a series. As far as I know, it’s not. There are two movies, I totally forgot the exact titles though…I think the second is something about “Nobody knows but me” or “…like me” or whatever. Search Like Love and you’ll find. Two warnings here: First off, this show is preeeetty hands-on. There are some really erotic scenes in there but it is not all about that, so don’t worry, you won’t get just BL porn XP Second warning, DO watch the uncut version. I watched the uncut version of the second one but the censored version of the second one and seriously…the second seems like a totally different movie when you watch the uncut or the censored version…I was so confused.

Like Love though gives you great chemistry and some really funny interactions and characters, some things seem unlogic and the quality of the whole movie is not that great but all that is taken care of by the few scenes that capture your heart.

Seven Days I & II

I think I mentioned that I won’t recommend Japanese stuff, well okay, I will recommend some. Seven Days…haa, it’s from a manga, which I actually read BEFORE there was even any talk of a movie adaptation. And I totally fell in love with the manga. The story is amazing and touching and well, it’s just awesome. Then the talk about a live adaptation started and I was excited and curious but also wary. How good would it be?

Overall? The movie is just like the manga or as close to the manga as it could be. The chemistry is really really sweet and the storyline goes smoothly and has the perfect pace. I loved it and I’d want to watch it again and again…you know what? I’m gonna watch it again now!

On that note, this is all for now. Slowly I’m running out of recommendations but I still have a few up my sleeve. Let’s see where it goes or rather when ;D

Bye for now. I’m open for questions and other recommendations in the comments down below.

  1. So I just read this (life happened and all that jazz). So thank you for this new batch of recs!

I remembered reading the manga for Seven Days (as previously stated I’m a manga/fic reader before watching BL movies/series, so yeah). It was cute and refreshing. In a nutshell, it was really nice. When I tried to watch the movie though, it felt a bit too draggy so I didn’t finish it.

I confess, I haven’t watched a full-length japanese BL movie because I find them—forgive me for this brutal term—dull (I wish I can use italics). I’m trying to correct this viewpoint though. Hopefully, I will succeed.

    Happy Holidays!

    • I totally 100% understand what you mean with “dull”. That’s why I seldomly recommend Japanese stuff. It’s nice but they are kinda draggy and awkward. The chemistry is kinda off sometimes. Still I thought “Seven Days” was one of the better ones, so I recommended it ^.^

  2. I can’t find anything when I search for like love 😦 Do you have anything more specific I can search for?

  3. I recommend “A Round Trip to Love”. It’s a two-part mandarin series, each about an hour long. The chemistry is amazing, it takes your emotions on a massive roller-coaster, and for those who know how to look out for that stuff, the cinematography is quite something.

  4. I was waiting to see if you have Red Balloon Taiwanese series on your list but it is not. 🙂 I just want to recommend it. It fit the whole not a lot of steamy scene just one or two kids but you can feel their chemistry plus it has a pretty good story line because it tapped into the reality of how same sex relationship is still on the way of being fully accepted by society. The soundtrack is great too. Thanks for your recommendation!
