BL recommendations / Asia. Part IV

Also, check out the other parts

Since a lot of people seem to like the recommendations and I still have some left – I’m one of the sad beings that can read a list of BL recommendations and be like “yea, I watched all that…what now?” – I decided to make another post like this. I’m actually writing this shortly after releasing part III but I’m still not sure what I actually wanna recommend since I don’t wanna recommend stupid or bad stuff. I mostly recommend good ones, popular ones or also ones that left a positive impression.

Well, I’m gonna try my best. Let’s go!

As a reminder: Criteria

  • this time again – no sad endings here
  • Asian, duh
  • BL, duh
  • some kinda chemistry because otherwise I’d drop it immediately.
  • Movies or series

I’m gonna start with something small and maybe work my way up – or rather down – the list to the better ones…doesn’t mean you can’t watch the top ones but just, if you think “oh I watched this, why’s she recommending that?”

Prince’s Prince

PP is like “The Boy Next Door” from the previous recommendations list, except for the part where it leaves you hanging quite a bit. I mean, I didn’t really expect much of it anyway, since a Korean idol plays one of the main roles and when have you seen an idol do something so drastic as to participate in an actual BL project? Well, Prince’s Prince is still nice to watch and quite a laugh, just don’t expect to get “real” BL but soooo many indications….

Love’s Coming / Love Love You

Love’s Coming was a big hit and while I loved the actors and the whole storyline I was one of the few people who were not angry or sad about the fact that the changed one of the main leads for part 2 of the movie “Love Love You”. So first things first, here you have one movie about people getting together and then the continuation when they are already a couple. When I watched the first one I was like “Weeeell…I don’t know how this is gonna turn out” but it turned out that the chemistry between the leads is good and the storyline goes a little bit deeper the longer you watch.

Love Love You has a lot of similarities in that regard – genius, it’s the second installment – In the beginning the movie builds on comedy and fun and you can already guess some drama but don’t really get it yet, and then…well, then the throw some real dramatic scenes at you. Both movies are great at being superficial most of the time but giving you real deep scenes from time to time, that makes you love them. I enjoyed them very much, just except so much cheesiness! Seriously, I cringed at some scenes so hard….

Irresistible Love I & II (or Uncontrolled Love)

This one…this one…I discovered it per chance and totally fell in love with it. Here a fair warning without actually giving a spoiler – there IS a sad ending AND a happy ending. I’ve heard often that the sad ending is kinde…well, not that great – I wouldn’t know, I skipped out on that one =3 Problem here was the fact that when you skip the sad ending, you also miss some storyline for the good ending. It’s like the series My Bromance where – if you want some background knowledge to the show – you can watch the movie (that had a saaaaad ending) and then you get to know what exactly they changed about the ending to make the series…ok, that was way too complicated.

Just take it as – you can choose what ending to watch! I loved the acting in the show and I cannot remember how good the chemistry was but I think it was nice. To not expect too much hands-on action though. You’ll only get a spoiled brat, a masochistic sweetheart and a really interesting story in 2 movies.

Like Love I & II

On some sites people talk about Like Love like it’s a series. As far as I know, it’s not. There are two movies, I totally forgot the exact titles though…I think the second is something about “Nobody knows but me” or “…like me” or whatever. Search Like Love and you’ll find. Two warnings here: First off, this show is preeeetty hands-on. There are some really erotic scenes in there but it is not all about that, so don’t worry, you won’t get just BL porn XP Second warning, DO watch the uncut version. I watched the uncut version of the second one but the censored version of the second one and seriously…the second seems like a totally different movie when you watch the uncut or the censored version…I was so confused.

Like Love though gives you great chemistry and some really funny interactions and characters, some things seem unlogic and the quality of the whole movie is not that great but all that is taken care of by the few scenes that capture your heart.

Seven Days I & II

I think I mentioned that I won’t recommend Japanese stuff, well okay, I will recommend some. Seven Days…haa, it’s from a manga, which I actually read BEFORE there was even any talk of a movie adaptation. And I totally fell in love with the manga. The story is amazing and touching and well, it’s just awesome. Then the talk about a live adaptation started and I was excited and curious but also wary. How good would it be?

Overall? The movie is just like the manga or as close to the manga as it could be. The chemistry is really really sweet and the storyline goes smoothly and has the perfect pace. I loved it and I’d want to watch it again and again…you know what? I’m gonna watch it again now!

On that note, this is all for now. Slowly I’m running out of recommendations but I still have a few up my sleeve. Let’s see where it goes or rather when ;D

Bye for now. I’m open for questions and other recommendations in the comments down below.

BL recommendation Part III / Asia

Also, check out the other parts

Since I’m kinda running out of ideas of just Thai BLs I decided to widen my geographical range to all of Asia…with some exceptions.

  • BL*, duh
  • chemistry
  • at least some kind of physical affection
  • Asian as in Chinese/Thai/Korean/what else was part of the recommendations?…well, I won’t recommend a lot of Japanese ones as example because after watching Thai ones some Japanese BL just seem kinda awkward.
  • I watched it

I removed the happy ending criteria, if you want to know whether it ends bad or good or inbetween, ask in the comments.

*if you didn’t know BL meant boys love, you are probably wrong here…

Let’s start!

Let’s start with something I’m totally on the edge for. I watched it years ago and still don’t know whether I like it or not…probably more on the “not” side right now but I thought the chemistry was good, so I’m gonna include it here.

Eternal Summer

ES is a Taiwanese movie from 2006 and imo left a lot of viewers aggravated and unsatisfied. Why? I’m not gonna tell you but believe me expect something totally different from the things I recommended til now. Still for an inbetweener on a rainy day it’s a good movie I think.

Falling In Love With A Rival / Counterattack

or whatever it’s name is. The last time I checked it was available on youtube with ENG subs, so check it out there if you want to. Counterattack is the next aggravating think. It starts strong and ends strong and has good chemistry (not amazing but good), and you’ll have no idea how you landed where it ends. Seriously I watched it three times and still had to check whether I haven’t missed some episodes. Still, it’s a nice inbetweener. Also I heard that the actors said they actually kinda liked each other…hehe

Happy Together

So we started with the aggravating ones, so we’ll go to the cutiepie happy ones now. Why? Because the couples are actually already together. HT is really nice, the chemistry is good and the characters are funny. You’ll get some story, you’ll get some handsy scenes, you’ll get comedy…don’t expect something too deep though. HT is there to enjoy, not to make a drama about. Personally I loved it since it portrayed a couple living together and being happy and having some drama without the whole world ending…it was actually kinda believable if I think about it.

Life Is Beautiful

Giving you all my “it’s sweet, it’s good, I just want to have my plushie toy now” recommendations at the same time. I watched LIB before I even knew what Thai BL series where (haaa…it seems like a lifetime ago). LIB is amazingly real and very very very slow paced. Also it’s great at teasing. You’ll think you’ll get some and then they won’t give it to you. It’s Korean BL, what’d you expect? Still, the chemistry was nice and the couple was just sweet. If you have time (it’s 63 episodes, I hope you have a lot of time) and have enough of all the “am I really gay? Why do I like him? Do I like him? How r my mates gonna react in school? This doesn’t fit with my role here” drama just watch this BL drama/family show in typical Korean style.

HIStory – all 3 parts

It’s the Taiwanese hit, yay! When it came out it was kinda “Oh there is something” and now I seldomly meet someone who hasn’t watched it. If you’re new though, you probably haven’t. HIStory is a series with three different storylines in three differnt episodes. There is “My Hero”, “Stay Away From Me” and “Obsessed”. Let me tell you right here: The best one of the three, and I have yet to meet a soul who think differently, is Story 3.

My Hero is about a girl dying and not wanting her bf to be alone, so she goes into the body of a boy and…well, finds out that the boy has been in love with her bf all the time and so on and so on. HIStory and yes, I’m gonna just spoil now, only has Happy Endings. My Hero though shows a storyline where you’ll feel like you’re missing some scenes and some explanations and the chemistry is off, totally.

Stay Away From Me is better in the chemistry department. It’s about two boys, a normal guy and a model? idol? I can’t remember, becoming flat mates because, I think, their parents married?, and soon discover that there are more than just brotherly feelings. Like I said, the chemistry is better and the only thing lacking…well two things: the idol/model part was only believable as the guy was handsome af but otherwise I thought he was a normal dude too, also his acting was awkward and stiff at times.

Story 3, Obsessed, makes up for all the mistakes in the other parts. The chemistry is amazing, they are getting really really close and the storyline is great for all those “epic romance” fans out there. It’s about a guy who is in a relationship with another guy. One day his bf meets him and tells him he’s gonna marry a girl. Heartbroken he runs out aaaand…is hit by a car. He wakes up years before and has the chance to relive his life again, this time planning to make some changes. I just love this part. I watched it 5 times already and cannot get enough.

I recommend all three and decide for yourself what you like best.

The Boy Next Door

Hahahahahahahahahahahaha…why am I laughing? ‘Cause this is just a tease but it is such a good one. I can’t even say anything anymore but I just enjoyed this so so so much without really getting something. Just check it out, you’ll laugh your ass off!

So and now, I’m too lazy to write more even though I made myself a list. Maybe I’ll make a Part IV soon. Edit: Definitely, since I just remembered I haven’t recommended one of my faves yet.

Good night (for now)
